Job Summary
The Associate Dean for Undergraduate & Graduate Programs in the College of Business reports directly to and is supervised by the Dean of the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business (LCoB). The Associate Dean is a member of the LCoB management team in partnership with the Associate Dean of Faculty and Accreditation, the Director of Resources & Operations (DRO), and the Dean of the College of Business. The Associate Dean is the administrative head of the undergraduate, graduate, professional and executive education programs within the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business (LCoB). The office holder is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Undergraduate and Graduate Business Programs and, as part of the College's management team, may assume the role of the Dean in absence. At the direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean will represent the College with other management personnel in the University, Deans and their representatives from other CSU campuses, and the broader business community.
The Associate Dean for Undergraduate & Graduate Programs participates in strategic planning of, and is responsible for, all domestic and international undergraduate, graduate and non-degree educational activities and programs of the Lucas College. Current degree programs in the School include the undergraduate program with 14 different concentrations and various graduate programs.
These include an MBA offered in two formats (Early career MBA - state-supported program and MBA for Professionals - special session program), an MS in Accountancy & Analytics (state-supported program), an MS in Financial Analytics (state-supported program), an MS in Taxation (special session program), and an MS in Transportation Management (special session program), three partner programs: MS Medical Product Development Management, MS Engineering Management, and MS Biotechnology. Current non-degree programs offered by the School include advanced certificates in accounting (Accounting Fundamentals and Advanced Accounting Topics), Business Analytics, Global Leadership, taxation (Advanced Taxation, High Technology Taxation, International Taxation, and Tax Practice), and transportation management (High-speed Rail Management, Transportation Management, and Transportation Safety, Security, & Emergency Management). The Lucas Graduate School of Business is also a partner institution of the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) Consortium, a partnership of 15 international Business Schools delivering an annual simultaneous one-week module of education and experiential activities for professionals. The LCoB also offers custom executive/professional education programs to several international academic partners.
The incumbent should possess leadership and management skills, the ability to implement plans determined by the College management team and its faculty members, the ability to communicate their vision of the college, and the desire to work collaboratively with the College's students and faculty at large in an open and transparent manner.
This position requires adherence to University compliance training such as: Conflict of Interest and Ethics training, AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention training, Information Security training, and Injury and Illness Prevention Program training.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage undergraduate enrollment and impaction planning, retention efforts, and general supervision of student academic welfare
- Oversee the development and delivery of the BSBA degree offered through SJSU Online. Supervise the LCoB program director and collaborate with the Office of Academic Innovation and other relevant campus units.
- Collaborate with the efforts of the departmental Undergraduate Curriculum Committees and other curriculum related task forces to improve and maintain cutting-edge course content and relevance
- Coordinate and maintain orientation programs to facilitate the first-year and transfer experiences. Direct enrollment management for all undergraduate and graduate programs including coordination of rankings and marketing communications.
- Proactively assist the Dean by seeking opportunities and pursuing these by designing initiatives, programs, and partnerships that ensure a high quality of education for SJSU graduate business students and enhancing the SJSU and LCoB name both in the US and abroad.
- Supports Assurance of Learning (AoL) efforts in alignment with the AACSB standards by ensuring assessment processes are integrated with curriculum oversight and continuous improvement. While primary responsibility resides with the faculty and AoL leadership in the college, this role helps monitor implementation and supports the use of assessment data in curricular decisions.
- Oversee relations with the Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) with respect to student fee income, payment of faculty, overhead charges and other aspects of fee-based graduate programs under the aegis of CPGE. The Associate Dean serves as a representative from the College to other SJSU colleges or other universities in the case of joint programs and to the College of Graduate Studies and Research for program policy compliance.
- Work with the Dean and DRO to maintain oversight responsibility over revenues and costs associated with program development and delivery, to sustain the economic viability of programs, especially special session programs.
- Oversee all functions and services related to recruiting, admitting, matriculating, advising, scheduling, retaining, and graduating undergraduate and graduate students in both state-supported and non-state-supported graduate programs.
- Oversee all functions related to collaboration with partner institutions and offering of executive/professional education programs.
- Implement programs and directives that benefit undergraduate and graduate students and their faculty. These range from overseeing the compliance of programs with SJSU and CSU requirements, to convening student leaders, to assisting in resolving faculty-student conflicts.
- Oversee the graduate program directors and the EMBA Consortium Director and other directors of executive education programs and is responsible for their training and development.
- Serve as the administrator responsible for making decisions on student issues that fall outside the normal admission or retention range. Exercise consistent judgment related to signature authority on all petitions and forms requiring action about or on behalf of applicants and students.
- Implement and champion programs that promote access for students.
- Manage and resolve student concerns/complaints as needed.
- Coordinate with the Center for Faculty Excellence & Teaching Innovation and e-campus on instructional design services.
- Recommend initiatives and changes to improve quality of services for all elements of the College and the University. This includes overseeing branding and other outreach efforts to prospective and incoming students.
- Develop, communicate, and maintain guidelines, policies and procedures to support curricular & student service functions of the College.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- The incumbent must behave in a manner that reflects respect, courtesy and civility, appreciation, empathy, trust, inclusion and consultation. They will establish and maintain effective work relationships offering assistance and support as required. The Associate Dean should also understand and implement lines of reporting, responsibility, and accountability, making accurate, easily accessible information available to all members of the campus community.
- The incumbent must operate the College and its Departments/Schools as a team, establishing rapport with people from diverse academic backgrounds. They will also be an integral part of interviewing, hiring, and training staff in the Deans' Office. This duty includes planning, assigning, and directing work, as well as the appraisal of the performance of employees within that office.
- The incumbent must prioritize and plan work activities to meet department and college priorities and timelines. Inherent in this activity is the identification of needed resources, and the establishment of procedures to utilize existing and new resources efficiently. The ability to adapt to changing priorities, situations, and demands is intrinsic to the planning process.
- The incumbent must demonstrate organizational awareness and exhibit a firm grasp of the College and University's business and administrative policies and procedures.
- The Associate Dean must also be able to provide accurate information on these policies and procedures to faculty, students and staff.
- The incumbent's communication, both oral and written, must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness. Additionally, the Associate Dean must display a commitment to excellence by looking for ways to improve and promote quality within the College, while soliciting feedback to improve his or her own performance.
- The incumbent must engage in creative problem solving, thinking globally rather than taking an insular perspective. The Associate Dean must be able to re-engineer processes that are not achieving College or Departmental/School goals. They must be open and receptive to change and new ideas regarding the policies and procedures of the College and University.
- The incumbent should serve as the contact person when potentially hazardous or unsafe conditions are observed. They should implement procedures to identify and alleviate any risky conditions within the College.

Required Qualifications
- A relevant doctoral degree or appropriate terminal degree as specified by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) standards is required.
- Three years of relevant administrative experience in a business or academic setting.
- Applicants must be academically qualified in regard to the AACSB standard.
- Applicants must have a record of scholarly work and teaching sufficient to have earned the rank of tenured, full professor in an AACSB-accredited business school.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience working with faculty, students and staff, operating effectively in an atmosphere of open, transparent, and collegial communication and shared self-governance.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with university, community and industry constituents, including other colleges and potential employers of college students.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $16,909/month - $18,167/month
CSU Salary Range: $6,891/month - $22,119/month
The final hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
