Job Summary
The Associate Dean for Academic Programs, Student Success and Assessment provides leadership for academic program quality, curriculum governance, student success, assessment, accreditation, and strategic enrollment management within the College of Information, Data and Society. Working under the general direction of the Dean, the incumbent independently plans, organizes, and prioritizes complex academic initiatives and collaborates with department chairs and campus partners to advance undergraduate and graduate programs across modalities. The role leads evidence based program planning, continuous improvement, and sustainable growth while supporting inclusive advising, student pathways, and academic excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead college-wide curriculum governance, including new and revised programs, certificates, stackable credentials, modality approvals, proposal submissions, policy compliance, and catalog accuracy.
- Coordinate academic scheduling, faculty load and assigned/release time, interdisciplinary offerings, orientation, and block enrollment in partnership with departments and college leadership.
- Develop and implement strategic enrollment management plans, including FTES/SFR targets, impaction planning, course-demand analytics, and schedule optimization across modalities and locations.
- Lead development and ongoing coordination of PaCE, special-session, fee-based, and online programs, including launch readiness, business models, budgeting, and sustainable growth strategies.
- Analyze program efficiency and effectiveness using measures such as course fill, throughput, cost-to-deliver, and modality mix, and drive continuous improvement with chairs and directors.
- Lead annual learning assessment, program planning, program review, and accreditation activities, including outcomes mapping, rubrics, evidence collection, improvement actions, reports, and dashboards.
- Coordinate K-14 partnerships and academic pathways into college majors to strengthen access and student success.
- Serve on the college leadership team, contribute to strategic planning and policy, represent the Dean when assigned, and coordinate scholarships, awards, and student-facing events.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Expertise in curriculum development and governance, student success strategies, learning assessment, and program review/accreditation.
- Ability to use institutional data and quantitative/qualitative analysis to support evidence-based decisions, enrollment planning, and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of advising models, orientation and transfer pathways, and online, hybrid, and in-person program operations.
- Ability to interpret complex policies, resolve student and faculty matters fairly, and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong written, interpersonal, and professional communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across academic and administrative units.
- Ability to plan, assign, and direct complex work while operating independently under general direction.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies, including AI, and ability to advance responsible, ethical, equitable, accessible, and compliant applications in higher education.
- Ability to lead innovation and guide effective adoption of emerging technologies across programs, services, and operations.
- Skill in advising and supporting faculty and chairs and working collegially with academic leaders and campus partners
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate from an accredited institution in a field Relevant to College of Information, Data and Society (e.g., information/data science, informatics, computer science/engineering, statistics, or related).
- Demonstrated record of academic leadership (e.g., chair/associate chair, program coordinator, assessment coordinator, associate dean)
- Demonstrated success leading curriculum/assessment initiatives and student‑success efforts at scale.
- Demonstrated record of advancing academic excellence through leadership in curriculum development, academic program quality, student success, assessment, and continuous improvement.
- Record of scholarship/creative work commensurate with appointment at the rank of tenured full professor in IDS.
- Demonstrated record of building effective, collaborative relationships with faculty, department chairs, academic leaders, staff, and campus partners to advance complex academic initiatives and achieve shared institutional goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five years’ experience in department or college-level academic leadership (i.e. department chair, center director).
- Experience supervising professional staff and building teams.
- Experience with enrollment management/scheduling analytics and online/hybrid/in person program development.
- Experience coordinating accreditation (e.g., WSCUC; discipline‑specific if applicable).
Compensation
Classification: Administrator III
Anticipated Hiring Range: $11,667 /month - $15,608/month
CSU Salary Range: $6,891/month - $22,119/month
The final hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
