What is a deal desk?

A Deal Desk is a cross-functional team or function within a company, typically in sales or revenue operations, that helps structure, review, and approve complex sales deals. The Deal Desk ensures that deals align with the company's pricing, legal, and financial policies, and often acts as a liaison between sales, finance, legal, and other departments. Their goal is to streamline the sales process, improve deal quality, and accelerate deal closure while minimizing risks. Deal Desk professionals analyze terms, provide guidance on deal structure, and support the sales team in crafting compelling offers for customers.

How does the deal desk role interact with sales and finance teams during the deal approval process?

In a Deal Desk role, you'll frequently collaborate with both sales and finance teams to ensure deals are structured in alignment with company policies and profitability goals. You'll review proposals, provide guidance on pricing and contract terms, and help resolve any compliance or margin concerns. This cross-functional interaction requires strong communication skills and attention to detail as you act as a bridge, balancing sales objectives with financial and legal requirements to facilitate smooth deal closures.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a deal desk professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Deal Desk professional, you need strong analytical skills, business acumen, and a solid understanding of pricing strategies, often backed by a degree in business, finance, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM and CPQ systems like Salesforce, as well as proficiency in Excel, is typically required. Exceptional attention to detail, communication, and stakeholder management set top performers apart. These skills ensure accurate deal structuring, effective collaboration across teams, and maximized revenue opportunities for the organization.

Renewal Operations Manager

Project Sapiens

OR • Remote

Full-time

Re-posted 7 days ago

Job description

Title: Renewal Operations Manager

Location: Remote - North America

Position Summary:

Sapiens is building a dedicated renewal function - and you will help the team build it. You will own a defined segment of the NA renewal book, managing the commercial renewal process end to end, identifying pricing uplift opportunities, and ensuring contracts are structured to protect and grow Sapiens' ARR. You will work closely with BU leaders and PMs who currently manage these customer relationships, transitioning commercial ownership of the renewal conversation while maintaining continuity for the customer.

You do not need to have done this exact job before. You need to be analytically curious, comfortable in a spreadsheet and a contract at the same time and motivated by commercial outcomes, not just the relationship.

This is not a relationship maintenance role. You will be working with contract data, usage patterns, pricing models, and financial analysis to find the commercial opportunity in each account and then execute against it. The function is new and the playbook does not exist yet. You will be working with the VP Global Renewals and the team to help define the go forward process and experience.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Renewal Execution

  • End-to-end management of assigned renewal accounts - outreach, negotiation, quoting, documentation, and booking
  • Identify pricing uplift opportunities within existing contracts - CPI escalators, license true-ups, tier migrations, maintenance-to-subscription transitions
  • Maintain accurate renewal pipeline and 90-120 day rolling forecast in Salesforce
  • Coordinate with Finance and Legal on non-standard terms and approval workflows

Relationship Transition & Internal Collaboration

  • Work directly with BU leadership and PMs on assigned accounts - learn the customer relationship, earn the commercial trust, and take ownership of renewal conversations over time
  • Partner with CSMs and PS leads on account health -  you own the commercial conversation, they own the delivery relationship
  • Escalate complex deal structures, pricing exceptions, and high-risk accounts to the Senior Renewal Ops Manager
  • Contribute findings to the team playbook - document patterns, objections, and what works

Analytics & Pipeline Management

  • Ensure your book is clean, current, and flagged for risk
  • Review contract data to understand pricing history, renewal dates, and structural opportunities before entering customer conversations
  • Produce accurate weekly forecast updates and pipeline commentary for the senior team

Requirements

Required:

  • 7+ years of experience with Sales, Deal Desk, RevOps with B2B software strongly preferred
  • Comfortable reading software contracts and extracting key commercial terms - renewal dates, pricing structures, escalator clauses, PS carve-outs
  • Strong analytical skills - Excel/Google Sheets proficiency required; Salesforce experience preferred
  • Direct communicator - comfortable having commercial conversations with procurement and finance contacts at customer organizations
  • Curious about the data - wants to understand why a customer is structured the way they are, not just when they renew

Preferred:

  • Insurance or financial services software experience
  • Experience in a service-heavy software environment
  • Familiarity with CPQ, CLM, or contract management tools

Why This Role

This is a builder role. We are not looking for someone who has spent their career running a mature renewal process at a large company. We are looking for someone who can create one from raw data and ambition.

At Sapiens, we are dedicated to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment. We believe that diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences make us stronger and more innovative. We are committed to creating a culture where every individual is valued and can thrive regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, or any other characteristic.

Sapiens is an E-Verified & Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
