What is a DDR memory module?

DDR memory modules, or Double Data Rate memory, are a type of computer RAM that can transfer data on both the rising and falling edges of the clock signal, effectively doubling the data rate compared to previous single data rate memory. DDR memory is commonly used in desktops, laptops, and servers to provide fast and efficient temporary data storage that the processor can quickly access. Over time, several generations have been released, including DDR2, DDR3, DDR4, and DDR5, each offering improvements in speed, bandwidth, and power efficiency.

What are some common challenges faced by DDR memory engineers when working on new hardware designs?

DDR Memory Engineers often encounter challenges related to signal integrity, timing closure, and compatibility with evolving hardware platforms. Ensuring reliable high-speed data transmission and minimizing noise requires close collaboration with PCB designers and system architects. Additionally, adapting to rapidly changing memory standards and troubleshooting issues that arise during prototyping and testing are key aspects of the role. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are essential for resolving these challenges and delivering robust memory solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DDR memory engineer, and why are they important?

A DDR Memory Engineer typically needs a strong background in electrical or computer engineering, with expertise in digital logic, memory architectures, and signal integrity. Familiarity with tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, simulation software (e.g., SPICE, Cadence), and industry standards such as JEDEC DDR specifications is required. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating across teams and troubleshooting complex issues. These competencies ensure reliable memory design, optimized performance, and successful integration in high-speed computing environments.

What is the difference between Ddr Memory vs Computer Hardware Technician?

AspectDdr MemoryComputer Hardware Technician
Required CredentialsKnowledge of memory modules, certifications like CompTIA A+Certifications like CompTIA A+, technical training in hardware repair
Work EnvironmentManufacturing, testing, or assembly of memory modulesRepair shops, IT departments, hardware troubleshooting
Industry UsageMemory manufacturing companies, electronics industryIT services, computer repair, technical support

While Ddr Memory involves the manufacturing and testing of memory modules, a Computer Hardware Technician focuses on diagnosing and repairing computer hardware, including memory components. Both roles require technical knowledge and certifications but differ in daily tasks and work environments.

Job description

Join Axon and be a Force for Good.

At Axon, we're on a mission to Protect Life. We're explorers, pursuing society's most critical safety and justice issues with our ecosystem of devices and cloud software. Like our products, we work better together. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other.

Life at Axon is fast‑paced, challenging and meaningful. Here, you'll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter.

Company Overview

Dedrone is the world's most trusted smart airspace security company. Hundreds of commercial, government, and defense customers around the world rely on Dedrone's comprehensive, command and control (C2) solutions to protect against the persistent and escalating threat from drones while enabling "good" drones to fly. By leveraging AI/ML, Dedrone is the only solution that provides continuous, autonomous interrogation and verification of drones that enables both multi-sensor and multi-mitigation options onto a single fused "pane‑of‑glass." Whether on‑premise / air‑gapped or in the cloud, Dedrone customers can easily detect, track, identify, analyze, and mitigate drone threats.

What You’ll Do
  • Architect and design complex digital/analog electrical systems with a focus on modularity, performance, and ruggedization. Lead the end‑to‑end design of scalable hardware platforms, integrating high‑speed digital processing, analog sensor interfaces, and robust power delivery architectures for counter UAS systems.
  • Design and implement FPGA based circuitry, memory architectures, and high speed interfaces (DDR, PCIe, SerDes, JESD204B/C).
  • Architect, design and validate AC/DC and DC/DC power supply topologies across varying power levels to support field deployable cUAS systems.
  • Conduct electrical analysis including signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC mitigation, thermal considerations and reliability testing.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (RF, software, mechanical) to deliver fully integrated systems.
  • Oversee transition from prototype to production, working closely with manufacturing partners to ensure scalability, quality, and compliance (i.e. UL, MIL‑STD‑461/810/1275).
  • Lead electrical validation and bring up efforts, including Design Verification Testing (DVT).
  • Lead and contribute to design reviews, ensuring design meets performance reliability and design requirements.
  • Rigorously document and manage electrical design specifications, BOMs, test reports, and compliance reports.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant field.
  • Proven Experience: Demonstrated expertise in developing custom electronics, including schematic capture, multilayer PCB design, and component selection. Strong track record of taking designs from concept through production, with a focus on performance, reliability, and design for manufacturability (DFM). Portfolio of successful hardware projects showcasing deep technical ownership and attention to detail.
  • PCB Design Skills: Expertise in schematic design, layout, and simulation for PCBs, including experience with relevant CAD tools (e.g., Altium Designer or similar).
  • Quality Assurance: A strong background in the testing and qualification of electronics, ensuring products meet industry standards for quality and safety.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of designing and testing systems in accordance with MIL‑STD‑810 for environmental durability and MIL‑STD‑461 for EMI/EMC compliance. (U.S. citizenship required)
  • Design for Manufacturing: Experience with PCB / PCBA production, wire harnesses, assembly, and test processes and knowledge of DFM techniques.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional problem‑solving abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to effectively collaborate in both independent and team‑based environments.
Work Location

This role is based out of our Sterling Office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in‑person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation.

Benefits that Benefit You
  • Competitive salary and 401k with employer match
  • Discretionary paid time off
  • Paid parental leave for all
  • Medical, Dental, Vision plans
  • Fitness Programs
  • Emotional & Mental Wellness support
  • Learning & Development programs
  • Snacks in our offices
