Job description

Salary: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour

CLS is looking to hire a dedicated aid to work on one of our sites in NW DC.

The dedicated aid will be assigned to a student to ensure their safety and help them with behavior, school rules and interactions with peers. The dedicated aid shadows the student in the afternoon and helps them decrease and avoid inappropriate behaviors. They work under the direction of the CLS main office and are aware of 504 plans and IEP goals for their students.


Qualifications:

- AA degree or higher required.

-Must be at least 18 years old.

-At least 1 year experience working with special education.

-Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

-Patience and ability to handle various learning abilities.

-Experience working with IEPs and 504 plans.

-Good references from previous employers.

-Must be willing to undergo a DCPS background check.

-Must be available to start August 25.

-Must be able to attend one training on the week of August 18-22.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Shadow assigned student in the afterschool and maintain documentation regarding students behaviors.
  • Help assigned student decrease and avoid inappropriate behaviors through use of effective behavior management techniques.
  • Help assigned student with indoor and outdoor time and encourage assigned students participation and interaction.
  • Demonstrate clear and professional boundaries with all students.
  • Provide feedback to the CLS team regarding the students needs and adjust behaviors and practices to accommodate those needs.
  • Help to promote a safe, appealing and engaging learning environment.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how our students disabilities impact their behavior and ability to learn.
  • Effectively manage student behavior through the implementation of the behavior management system, school rules, policies, and procedures; model appropriate behavior for the students during the school day
  • Proactively identify behaviors among all students that could lead to a crisis, an unsafe situation or disrupt the learning environment; use effective behavior management techniques to address these behaviors in order to limit the severity and length of disruptions
  • Proactively provide supervision of students to ensure the safety and security of the school program at all times
  • Demonstrate appropriate use of verbal de-escalation skills to manage student behaviors; utilize the behavior continuum in order to use or consider the use of the least restrictive behavioral interventions necessary; use effective, appropriate and approved strategies during a crisis including the participation in seclusions, therapeutic holds, escorts, and student restraints when necessary.
