Data Center Facilities Technician
Location: Bethesda, Maryland, with occasional support in Sterling, Virginia Employment
Type: Full-time
Schedule: Onsite shift work; after-hours and on-call support may be required
Position Status: Contingent upon contract award
Position Summary
V W International is seeking a qualified Data Center Facilities Technician to support the daily operation, maintenance and monitoring of mission-critical electrical, mechanical and environmental infrastructure within a federal data center environment.
The Facilities Technician will conduct equipment inspections, monitor critical systems, coordinate preventive maintenance, respond to service calls, support DCIM operations, manage maintenance documentation and assist with infrastructure troubleshooting and improvement projects.
This position requires broad hands-on knowledge of critical power, cooling, environmental monitoring and data center facilities operations.
Key Responsibilities
โ€ขMonitor and maintain mission-critical data center infrastructure and environmental conditions.
โ€ขPerform daily facility rounds, inspections, audits, equipment checks and operational reviews.
โ€ขMonitor electrical, mechanical, HVAC, cooling, humidity, leak-detection and power-distribution systems.
โ€ขCoordinate and oversee scheduled preventive maintenance performed by employees, manufacturers, service providers and subcontractors.
โ€ขPerform preventive-maintenance and quality-control inspections.
โ€ขRespond to service calls, alarms, equipment issues and infrastructure incidents.
โ€ขAssist with the operation, configuration and maintenance of DCIM and environmental-monitoring systems.
โ€ขEstablish or troubleshoot connectivity to environmental and facilities hardware.
โ€ขSupport DCIM configuration changes, updates, security patches and issue resolution.
โ€ขDevelop and maintain operational procedures, Methods of Procedure, checklists, maintenance schedules and work records.
โ€ขCollect and maintain field-service reports and preventive-maintenance documentation.
โ€ขCoordinate generator testing and other scheduled maintenance with building and customer personnel.
โ€ขProvide advance customer notification for scheduled maintenance activities.
โ€ขMaintain inventory of parts, tools, materials and supplies.
โ€ขReview equipment plans and manuals to forecast maintenance requirements.
โ€ขCoordinate subcontractors, vendors, materials and site access.
โ€ขPrepare service work orders and documentation supporting invoicing, vendor payment and payroll.
โ€ขSupport equipment installation, configuration, adds, moves and changes.
โ€ขMaintain safe, secure, sanitary and efficient data center conditions.
โ€ขParticipate in shift coverage, after-hours maintenance and on-call response as required.
The SOW assigns this position responsibility for critical-system monitoring, PM oversight, DCIM support, service calls, quality inspections, MOPs, generator testing and maintenance documentation.
Required Qualifications
โ€ขAt least five years of professional experience in environmental data center monitoring.
โ€ขAt least five years of professional experience managing or maintaining complex data center facilities.
โ€ขAt least three years of professional experience in a multi-platform enterprise networking environment.
โ€ขBachelor's degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information systems, engineering, business, facilities management or a related discipline.
Equivalent directly relevant professional experience may be considered in place of the degree.
โ€ขExpert knowledge of data center electrical infrastructure, including power distribution, UPS systems, PDUs, transfer equipment, circuit breakers and related equipment.
โ€ขExpert knowledge of CRAC/CRAH systems, HVAC, cooling, humidity control, leak detection and other environmental infrastructure.
โ€ขFunctional knowledge of DCIM or facilities-management monitoring software.
โ€ขExperience performing or overseeing preventive maintenance in a mission-critical environment.
โ€ขAbility to interpret technical manuals, equipment documentation, drawings and maintenance procedures.
โ€ขStrong troubleshooting, documentation and customer-service skills.
โ€ขAbility to work independently and as part of an integrated technical team.
โ€ขAbility to qualify for federal facility access and meet applicable background-investigation requirements.
The minimum experience requirements are established in SOW Section 10.3.
Preferred Qualifications
โ€ขExperience with rotary and static UPS systems.
โ€ขExperience with generators, switchgear, PDUs, power-distribution modules and automatic transfer switches.
โ€ขExperience with Liebert, Vertiv, Schneider Electric, APC or similar mission-critical equipment.
โ€ขExperience supporting federal, healthcare, scientific, research or high-performance-computing environments.
โ€ขData center operations, electrical, HVAC, safety or DCIM certifications.
โ€ขFamiliarity with AFCOM or comparable industry practices.
