In DBT therapy, the 24-hour rule encourages clients to wait at least one day before acting on intense emotions or urges, allowing time to reflect and employ coping skills. Therapists often teach clients to use distress tolerance skills during this period to manage emotional crises effectively.

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) is primarily designed to treat borderline personality disorder and emotional regulation issues. While it can help manage some symptoms related to emotional distress in schizophrenia, it is not considered a primary treatment for the core symptoms of schizophrenia, which typically require antipsychotic medication and other specialized therapies. Dbt therapy skills may be used as adjuncts to support overall mental health in some cases.
