Skills & CertificationsSQL, dbt, data modeling, analytics skillsSQL, Python, ETL tools, cloud platforms, data architecture
Work EnvironmentAnalytics teams, data warehouses, BI projectsData platforms, cloud environments, big data systems

While both roles involve working with data, a Dbt Developer specializes in transforming data using dbt within analytics and BI projects, whereas a Data Engineer focuses on building and maintaining the broader data infrastructure and pipelines across various systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DBT Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a DBT Developer, you need strong SQL expertise, data modeling skills, and experience with ETL processes, typically supported by a background in computer science or data engineering. Familiarity with DBT (Data Build Tool), version control systems like Git, and cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake or BigQuery is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help you deliver scalable data solutions and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These skills are crucial for building reliable data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and enabling data-driven decision-making within organizations.

What is a Dbt Developer?

A Dbt Developer is a data professional who specializes in using dbt (data build tool) to transform raw data into clean, reliable datasets for analytics and business intelligence. They write modular SQL code to perform data transformations, manage data models, and ensure data quality within modern data warehouses. Dbt Developers collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts, and business users to create efficient, maintainable data workflows. Their work enables organizations to make informed decisions based on trustworthy and well-structured data.

How does a DBT Developer typically collaborate with data engineers and analysts on a project?

DBT Developers frequently work alongside data engineers to ensure that data pipelines provide clean, reliable data to downstream users. They collaborate with analysts to understand data requirements, define business logic, and implement transformations that support analytics and reporting. Regular communication is essential for aligning on naming conventions, documenting models, and troubleshooting issues. This collaboration often takes place through code reviews, shared documentation, and agile ceremonies such as sprint planning or stand-ups.

Job description

SUMMARY: We are seeking an Informatica Technical Lead to provide hands on technical leadership across our enterprise data integration platform. This role is responsible for the design, build, stability, and technical evolution of Informatica-based data pipelines while partnering closely with architecture, platform leadership, and delivery managers. This is a technical leadership role-not a people management role. The Technical Lead sets the technical bar, ensures production stability, mentors engineers, and coordinates execution across teams, while delivery ownership and people management remain with the Informatica Manager. The role supports a hybrid environment that includes Informatica (PowerCenter / IDMC) and possibly a gradual evolution toward modern cloud and analytics platforms (Snowflake, dbt).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.
  • Technical Ownership & Delivery:
  • Leads the end-to-end technical design and implementation of Informatica ETL/ELT pipelines, including sourcing, transformations, orchestration, error handling, restartability, and downstream dependencies.
  • Establishes and enforces technical standards and reusable patterns for mappings, workflows, parameterization, performance tuning, and monitoring.
  • Partners with data architects to translate target-state architecture into executable Informatica designs, including hybrid and dual run patterns.
  • Reviews and guides implementation work to ensure design integrity, scalability, and operational resilience.
  • Production Stability & Support:
  • Serves as the primary technical escalation point for complex production incidents, leading deep root cause analysis and permanent remediation.
  • Identifies systemic failure patterns and drive architectural or design changes to reduce recurring incidents.
  • Ensures pipelines meet defined SLAs, reliability, and audit expectations, especially for regulatory and risk sensitive data flows.
  • Collaborates with support and scheduling teams to ensure smooth promotion, execution, and recovery of Informatica jobs.
  • Estimation, Planning & Coordination:
  • Breaks down requirements into technically meaningful components and helps shape realistic estimates based on data volume, transformation complexity, dependencies, and risk.
  • Coordinates closely with the Informatica Manager to surface technical risks early, enabling proactive re planning rather than late delivery issues.
  • Participates in project planning, design reviews, and readiness checkpoints to ensure technical feasibility and delivery confidence.
  • Communicates technical concepts clearly to delivery managers and non-technical stakeholders without over or under simplifying.
  • Mentorship & Technical Quality:
  • Mentor data engineers on best practices, debugging techniques, performance optimization, and operational thinking.
  • Raises overall team capability through design reviews, knowledge sharing, and consistent technical guidance.
  • Help reduce key person risk through documentation, standardization, and shared ownership of critical pipelines.
  • Modernization & Platform Evolution (as applicable):
  • Identifies candidates suitable for refactoring or migration to modern data platforms.
  • Supports incremental modernization efforts by defining safe migration approaches that minimize business disruption.
  • Contributes technically to initiatives involving Snowflake, dbt, AWS, or cloud-native tools, where applicable.
  • Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
  • Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
  • Identifies and reports suspicious activity.
