Job description

Octagont Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced SAP BASIS Consultant to support a client in the higher education sector. This remote role centers on managing and optimizing the SAP S/4HANA 1909 and SAP Student Lifecycle Management (SLcM) environments. The ideal candidate is hands-on, performance-driven, and capable of ensuring robust system availability, security, and scalability while working closely with cross-functional teams

Key Responsibilities:


SAP System Administration & Support


  • Manage SAP S/4HANA 1909 and SLcM system landscapes (development, quality, production).
  • Perform daily system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Handle kernel upgrades, patch management, transports, and system refreshes.
  • Manage client copies, client transports, and landscape synchronization.
  • Maintain high system availability and disaster recovery readiness


Security & Compliance


  • Administer user roles and authorizations based on SAP security best practices.
  • Monitor system logs, perform audits, and ensure regulatory compliance (e.g., FERPA for education sector).
  • Collaborate with security teams to enforce IT controls and standards.


System Performance & Optimization


  • Analyze system logs, work processes, short dumps, and performance traces to proactively address issues.
  • Tune system parameters and optimize memory and buffer usage across the landscape.
  • Implement SNOTE and OSS solutions to resolve known issues and apply SAP recommendations.

 

Upgrades, Migrations & Projects


  • Support version upgrades, database migrations, and implementation of new SAP components.
  • Assist with SAP HANA DB management, backup/restore procedures, and HANA Studio configuration.
  • Participate in greenfield or brownfield SLcM implementation and integrations with third-party tools.


Collaboration & Documentation


  • Work closely with ABAP, Fiori, and functional teams to ensure smooth deployments and integrations.
  • Document system configurations, backup policies, and operational runbooks.
  • Provide root cause analysis for outages and incidents.


Testing & Change Management


  • Coordinate system refreshes and transport landscape for SLcM development and QA.
  • Support automated and manual testing phases for patches, enhancements, and upgrades.
  • Maintain change management records using tools like ChaRM, Jira, or Solution Manager.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of SAP BASIS experience, including S/4HANA 1909 and SLcM landscapes.
  • Experience managing SAP applications in a higher education or academic environment is a strong plus.
  • Deep technical knowledge of:
  • SAP S/4HANA architecture, SAP Kernel, and NetWeaver stack
  • SAP HANA Database administration
  • SAP Transport Management System (TMS)
  • SAP Solution Manager / EarlyWatch Alert
  • Security & authorization concepts in higher ed environments
  • Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, and system diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills


  • Familiarity with SAP SLcM functional modules and integrations.
  • Experience with SAP Business Application Studio, Eclipse ADT, and Fiori app deployment (technical coordination, not development).
