Chevron is accepting online applications for FCC/SRU Day Shift Lead through June 19th, at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time).

The Day Shift Lead (DSL) is a front-line operations leader responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and optimized execution of refinery operations during the day shift. The role provides critical on-the-ground leadership across operating units, coordinating activities between operations, maintenance, technical, and support organizations to deliver against the refinery's daily and weekly operating plans.

The DSL is accountable for reinforcing operational discipline, managing risk, and driving performance aligned with production, safety, and environmental expectations.

This role is essential to maintaining alignment across the 24/7 organization and ensuring consistent execution of priorities across rotating crews.

The DSL is a safety sensitive position.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

1. Safety, Compliance, and Risk Management

  • Reinforce safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible operations across assigned units
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks in real time
  • Ensure adherence to Conduct of Operations (COO) standards and site procedures
  • Maintain field presence to verify safe work execution and operational discipline

2. Daily Operations Leadership

  • Provide day-of execution leadership to ensure safe and reliable unit operation
  • Coordinate across multiple rotating crews to ensure alignment and continuity of operations
  • Manage emerging issues, operational conflicts, and production tradeoffs in real time
  • Lead response to abnormal situations, including unit upsets and equipment issues

3. Planning and Optimization

  • Prioritize daily activities in alignment with the 7-day operating plan and unit optimization targets
  • Provide input into weekly and longer-range planning (S&OP / 7DP) processes
  • Identify and manage unit constraints and plant limits to enable optimal throughput and performance
  • Coordinate with Optimization and Planning teams to support plan execution

4. Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Interface with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Technical, Optimization, and contractor organizations
  • Align resources and priorities to ensure efficient execution of planned and emergent work
  • Resolve conflicts between competing priorities (maintenance vs. operations vs. projects)
  • Coordinate support for turnarounds, capital projects, and improvement initiatives

5. Execution and Performance Management

  • Drive unit performance against production, reliability, and cost targets
  • Ensure accountability for execution and follow-through on daily priorities
  • Monitor performance against plan and adjust as needed to maintain targets
  • Support continuous improvement and operational excellence efforts

6. Communication and Alignment

  • Ensure clear communication of priorities and expectations across crews and support teams
  • Maintain alignment with Section Heads, Shift Team Leads (STLs), and support organizations
  • Provide timely updates on risks, issues, and performance gaps
  • Ensure smooth shift-to-shift handoffs and continuity of operations

7. Leadership and Field Engagement

  • Maintain strong, visible field leadership presence
  • Coach and reinforce expectations with operators and shift leadership
  • Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, and operational discipline
  • Support development of frontline personnel capability
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in refinery operations with strong knowledge of safe work practices and process safety management.
  • Demonstrated experience in operations leadership, with the ability to coordinate day-to-day activities across operations, maintenance, and technical functions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as an on-shift operator or supervisor in a complex refining or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage priorities in a dynamic operations setting.
