Job description

Day Shift Truck Driver

As a Day Shift Truck Driver at Steel Technologies, you'll operate a heavy-capacity commercial truck to transport freight between Steel Technologies' locations, from suppliers and to customers. Our customers depend on timely and quality deliveries and exceptional customer service.

How you'll contribute to our company:

  • Operates a truck with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver steel products
  • Performs required daily vehicle inspections and monthly checklist to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order
  • Reports vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles
  • Maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned
  • Secures cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers
  • Inspects securement devices (chains, straps, tie-downs) for defects
  • Inspects material placed on truck for defects before and after trips
  • Maintains inspection paperwork and documentation relating to accidents or material defects
  • Follows a pre-determined schedule of pickup and delivery

Here's what is needed to be successful:

  • Ability to operate a clutch pedal
  • Ability to operate a tractor trailer for up to 10 consecutive hours
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with all D.O.T and FMCSR requirements as well as applicable state laws
  • Class A CDL License and two years of driving experience, steel hauling preferred
  • Ability to climb on and off the semi-trailer as needed
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
