Job description

Reports To: Head Roaster & Operations Manager

Position Overview: As a Production Roaster, you can run a shift on our Loring S70 and manage Cropster for all roasts. You have the knowledge to perform maintenance tasks with minimal supervision and the ability to troubleshoot machine performance to effectively communicate any areas of concern. You provide valuable insights during QC/QA cuppings and drive Caffe Vita forward in pursuit of the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily production roasting needs, ensuring each batch meets Vita quality standards.
  • Manage onsite green coffee inventory (request, receive, record) accurately
  • Manage all daily roasting tasks including Production Roasting, Machine Maintenance, QC Cuppings, etc..
  • Communicate to Roasting Leadership when roast profiles are proving difficult to follow / need to be updated.
  • Monitor for and report any machinery irregularities that could indicate the need for maintenance.
  • Maintain an organized station to support workflow, safety and hospitality.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date data in Cropster.
  • Follow SOPs for all workflows in compliance with GMP, Food Safety, Organic and Kosher guidelines.
  • Conduct sensory analysis for QA and QC as needed.
  • Coordinate with Operations on setting roasting priorities based on the daily demands of order volume.
  • Keep accurate records of the regular cleaning and maintenance of all roasting equipment.
  • Be consistent and reliable for shifts.
  • Collaborate with the Roasting Leadership on observations and action plans for continuous improvement.
  • Embody a culture of safety, open communication, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop strategies, processes, and systems that will scale easily as we continue to grow.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive workplace environment for all of our customers, employees and partners
  • Perform other duties as needed to support operations such as packing coffee, packing orders, cleaning etc..
  • Qualifications:
  • Preferred (1+) years roasting experience on a Loring or 3+ years experience roasting
  • Understanding of GMPs, Organic Certifications, Food Safety Certifications, and Lean Manufacturing
  • Prior experience with Cropster Roasting Intelligence software
  • Excellent time management and flexibility to prioritize scheduled tasks
  • Must be approachable, mindful, and positive
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback in any given situation
  • Analytical aptitude; logical and methodical approach to problem solving
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and/or prior experience with Microsoft 365
  • Complete continuous physical activity including walking, standing for 8 hours a day; twisting, sitting, bending, lifting, reaching, kneeling, stooping, crawling, wiping, climbing, pushing, and pulling items weighing 155 pounds.
  • Work overtime occasionally (possibly last minute) to meet production demands
