Job description

At Expedia Group, we help travelers explore the world, one journey at a time. As a global travel company powered by passionate people, trusted partnerships, and leading technology, we connect travelers, partners, and advertisers through our consumer brands, B2B network, and travel advertising business.

Here, you'll do meaningful work that helps millions of people discover, book, and experience travel with more ease, confidence, and joy. Our five Behaviors-Traveler First, Think Big, Operate with Excellence, Ownership Mindset, and Succeed Together-help foster a supportive environment where people can grow their careers and have the flexibility, benefits, and support to do their best work. Join us and build for travelers everywhere.

Our Technology Team partners with teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

As a Full Stack Software Engineer working on Expedia's critical production checkout applications, your mission will be to ensure Expedia Checkout is always fast, available, scalable, and engineered to withstand unparalleled demand. You will be in the thick of solving the [often unexpected] problems of systems at scale in a way most engineers never experience. You will have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, proficiency in coding and systems design, solid interpersonal skills and a desire to tackle the complex problems of scale. You are a collaborative and creative individual and you thrive in a dynamic and agile environment. You adapt to new technologies and enjoy working on complex problems. Every day, we at Expedia get to innovate on web applications that millions of travelers use to plan, book and experience trips they will remember forever.
In this role, you will:

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust, secure, and scalable services and applications, including system design (LLD), API design, and data modeling to support business-critical capabilities across multiple domains.
  • Write clean, reliable, and well-tested code, applying sound engineering principles, design patterns, and code review practices to improve quality, performance, and maintainability for complex systems.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of features and services, from technical design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and iteration, ensuring high availability and operational excellence.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive long-term improvements in reliability, observability, and resilience across services and dependencies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners, contributing technical expertise to product discovery, backlog prioritization, and data-driven decision making while ensuring solutions are reusable and fungible across multiple domains.
  • Safely integrate and operate AI/MLenabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing system components, including APIs, low-level design, and data modeling for single or multi-service ownership.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language and associated frameworks, with solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, debugging, and unit/integration testing.
  • Experience contributing to the operational lifecycle of services (monitoring, alerting, deployment pipelines, and incident handling) within a team setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Full-stack engineer with proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Java/Kotlin, and GraphQL.
  • Experience maintaining and operating at least four software projects or products in production environments, including bug fixing, troubleshooting, monitoring, and operational support.
  • Experience selecting technologies to solve business problems and understanding tradeoffs between languages and platforms.
  • Experience creating APIs consumed across teams or business units.
  • Solid understanding of how projects and teams interact with other teams and align to business needs.
  • Experience testing, monitoring, debugging, and fixing issues within defined SLAs.
  • Experience with AI-enabled software development workflows.

Please note that this role is only available in Seattle, in alignment with our flexible work model which requires employees to be in-office at least three days a week. We are unable to offer relocation assistance for this role.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $119,000.00 to $166,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $190,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
