What is a day shift Hypermill programmer?

A Day Shift Hypermill Programmer is a specialist who creates and optimizes CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining programs using Hypermill CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software, typically working during daytime hours. They are responsible for translating engineering designs into precise instructions that control CNC machines, ensuring parts are manufactured accurately and efficiently. Their daily tasks include programming tool paths, selecting cutting tools, and collaborating with machinists and engineers to resolve technical issues. Working the day shift means their schedule aligns with standard business hours, facilitating real-time coordination with other departments.

What is the difference between Day Shift Hypermill Programmer vs CNC Machinist?

AspectDay Shift Hypermill ProgrammerCNC Machinist
CredentialsCAD/CAM software proficiency, technical certificationsBlueprint reading, machine operation certifications
Work EnvironmentDesign and programming in office or CAD/CAM stationsMachine shop floor operating CNC machines
Industry UsageManufacturing, aerospace, automotiveManufacturing, metalworking, fabrication
Primary FocusCreating and optimizing CNC programsOperating machines and producing parts

The Day Shift Hypermill Programmer specializes in developing CNC programs using Hypermill software, focusing on design and simulation. In contrast, a CNC Machinist operates the machines directly to produce parts. While both roles require knowledge of machining processes, the programmer focuses on programming and setup, whereas the machinist handles machine operation and quality control.

What are some typical challenges faced by a day shift Hypermill programmer, and how can they be managed effectively?

Day Shift Hypermill Programmers often encounter challenges such as tight production schedules, last-minute design changes, and the need to optimize tool paths for efficiency and quality. Managing these challenges requires strong communication with design engineers and machine operators, as well as proactive planning to anticipate potential bottlenecks. Staying up-to-date with the latest Hypermill software features and regularly reviewing machining strategies can also help streamline workflows and reduce errors during the shift.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a day shift Hypermill programmer?

To thrive as a Day Shift Hypermill Programmer, you need expertise in CNC programming, strong knowledge of CAD/CAM software (especially Hypermill), and a background in precision machining, often supported by relevant technical certifications or apprenticeships. Proficiency with Hypermill, CAD/CAM systems, and experience with various CNC machine controls are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help ensure accurate programming and smooth collaboration with production teams. These skills and qualities are essential for maximizing machining efficiency, reducing errors, and ensuring high-quality production output.

Compensation Range: $35.00 – $45.00 per hour (based on experience)

Job Type: Full-Time

Shift:

  • Primary Shift: Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

About the Opportunity

An innovative and rapidly growing marine technology manufacturer is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to join its manufacturing engineering team. This is not a machinist position—the primary responsibility is developing, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs that support production of highly engineered components.

You'll work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Machining, and Production teams to develop efficient machining strategies, improve manufacturing processes, and solve complex production challenges. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys the technical side of manufacturing and wants to play a key role in building a world-class manufacturing operation from the ground up.

If you're passionate about CAD/CAM programming, continuous improvement, and collaborating with engineering teams to develop innovative manufacturing solutions, this role offers tremendous opportunity for long-term growth and impact.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, write, and optimize CNC programs for production machining
  • Create efficient machining strategies that maximize quality, productivity, and tool life
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers, Machinists, and Production teams to solve manufacturing challenges
  • Review engineering drawings, CAD models, and part specifications to develop machining processes
  • Support new product launches by creating and validating CNC programs
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make programming improvements to increase efficiency
  • Maintain program documentation and revision control
  • Assist with process improvement initiatives to reduce cycle times and improve quality
  • Support production during program prove-outs and implementation
  • Work with multiple CNC platforms, including HAAS equipment and other CNC machinery

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of CNC programming experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong CAD/CAM programming experience (hyperMILL experience is a plus but not required)
  • Experience creating CNC programs from engineering drawings and CAD models
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, feeds, speeds, and manufacturing best practices
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining and programming issues
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work closely with engineering and production teams
  • Strong communication skills and a project-focused approach
  • Experience with HAAS CNC machines is preferred

What's Offered

  • $35.00–$45.00/hour based on experience
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Significant overtime opportunities
  • Full benefits package
  • Opportunity to work with cutting-edge marine propulsion technology
  • Career growth with a rapidly expanding manufacturing organization
  • Collaborative engineering-focused environment
  • Opportunity to help build manufacturing processes from the ground up
  • Strong leadership team with significant investment in future growth

Why Join This Company?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a company during a period of rapid expansion. Rather than stepping into an established manufacturing environment, you'll have the chance to help shape programming standards, manufacturing processes, and production efficiency as the operation scales.

The company is revolutionizing the marine propulsion industry with innovative technology, supported by a strong leadership team, expanding distribution partnerships, and a direct-to-consumer business model. Your ideas and technical expertise will have a direct impact on the company's future success.
