Job description

Senior Software Engineer

Hybrid in the NYC OR London office

Job Type:ย Full-time

Tech Stack:ย Typescript/React, Python/Django, AWS, dbt

Donโ€™t worry too much about having experience with the specific tech stack - we are generally looking for people with strong core engineering skills and principles. We are looking for polyglots who believe specific technologies are just tools for tackling problems.

The Company

We accelerate the deployment of climate tech solutions through industry leading data, analytics, and research. Our subscription intelligence platform gives investors, corporates, and governments the insights they need to confidently build and finance the new climate economy. We produce the industry-leading newsletter read by 60,000 climate leaders.

We launched our core product in November 2023 and it has gone from success to success. We are now looking to develop it further by adding even more innovative tools and AI-enabled solutions that empower clients to make informed decisions in the climate tech space.

The Role

Our engineering team of 7 currently consists mainly of a mixture of back-end, front-end and data engineering specialists. Weโ€™re looking for a number of full-stack engineers who are technology generalists to join our team.

Youโ€™ll be working across the front-end (React, TypeScript, CSS), the back-end (Python, Django) and doing basic infrastructure (AWS) too - implementing features across the entire stack.

Weโ€™d love it if you had some experience in using AI (we currently use OpenAIโ€™s API) to extract data from PDFs, and/or any experience in automated data collection techniques. But this is not essential.

The first line of code of the platform was written in early 2023 so itโ€™s a relatively young codebase written entirely by current members of the team. We are constantly iterating our product plan in order to incorporate user feedback.

This is a very hands-on, delivery-focused role in a scale-up environment. Because of this, there are always times when we need to come up with a short-term tactical solution to deliver something a little quicker than we would like. You will have a strong focus on code quality but also on flexibility and pragmatically paying off tech debt.

We believe in thorough automated testing - every PR must have the appropriate E2E and unit tests. We own and have responsibility for the entire platform - its deployment and its reliability - so we also completely control our own CI and CD processes.

The team is an autonomous and empowered multi-disciplinary one. Our team is currently broken down into three sub-teams and consists of engineers, product managers and designers.

Must Haves

  • Good communication skillsย - we are constantly communicating in very technical language to each other one minute; semi-technical language to (for e.g) the product manager the next; and in laymanโ€™s terms to non-technical people the next.
  • Strong core engineering skillsย - we are generally looking for strong engineers, not necessarily people with a lot of (or any!) experience in our specific tech stack.
  • Kindnessย - we, as a team and as a company, believe in being kind over being nice. We are constantly giving and receiving constructive feedback and we are always trying to be empathetic. Weโ€™re all growing together.

Our Offer

  • Opportunity to work, learn, and make an impact at a fast-growing climate tech startup
  • Generous stock options
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
