Job Description - Industrial Millwright/Mechanic

We are seeking a motivated Industrial Millwright/Mechanic to join our team and grow into a fully trained millwright.

Position Overview

The Industrial Millwright/Mechanic supports experienced millwrights in installing, assembling, troubleshooting, and maintaining industrial machinery and mechanical systems. This entry‑level position is designed for individuals who want to pursue a long-term career in the millwright trade through hands-on work, on‑the‑job training, and mentorship.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, dependable, and eager to learn.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Installation Support

  • Assist with installation, alignment, and assembly of industrial machinery, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pumps, and automated equipment.
  • Help measure, cut, drill, and prepare materials and components as directed.
  • Support machinery leveling, anchoring, grouting, and precision alignment tasks under supervision.
  • Assist in installing and routing mechanical components such as shafts, bearings, belts, and chains.

Maintenance & Repair Assistance

  • Help troubleshoot mechanical issues with production and industrial equipment.
  • Support routine preventive maintenance tasks including lubrication, cleaning, and basic part replacements.
  • Assist with tear‑downs, rebuilds, and repairs on equipment as directed by senior millwrights.

Rigging & Equipment Handling

  • Assist with rigging, hoisting, and moving heavy equipment using cranes, forklifts, hoists, and rigging gear.
  • Learn proper rigging practices, load balancing, and equipment transport techniques.

Blueprint & Technical Interpretation

  • Support senior millwrights in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, blueprints, and layout diagrams.
  • Help take measurements and verify dimensions to ensure proper installation.

Safety & Worksite Responsibilities

  • Follow all OSHA, company, and customer safety guidelines.
  • Use proper PPE and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
  • Follow lockout/tagout and other safety procedures under supervision.

Tools, Equipment & Documentation

  • Properly use and maintain hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators).
  • Record hours worked and tasks completed each day.
  • Assist with jobsite cleanup, tool organization, and material staging.

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn the millwright trade.
  • 3 years of experience in mechanical, construction, industrial, or related work.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to travel to job sites and work overtime/weekends as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred

  • Enrollment in or completion of a millwright, industrial maintenance, or mechanical trade program.
  • Basic understanding of industrial equipment, hydraulics, or mechanical systems.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial construction environments.
