Job description

What Warehouse Operations contributes to Cardinal Health
Operations is responsible for materials handling and product distribution in a distribution or manufacturing environment. Includes warehousing and fulfillment of materials and products, transportation, inventory management as well as demand, supply and manufacturing planning.
 
Warehouse Operations is responsible for performing/controlling a combination of manual or automated tasks necessary for the receipt, storage, and shipment of product. This may include functions of receiving, picking, packing, shipping, staging, transporting, storage, delivery, etc. Also responsible for the efficient flow of products from the point of product receipt from vendors to the shipment of products (via prescribed service parameters) to a variety of internal and external customers.

Job Summary

The Supervisor, Warehouse Operations supervises a team of Inbound Operations warehouse associates and ensures that receiving, replenishment, put away and returns are safe, efficient, and of high quality. With responsibility for the day shift, the Supervisor continually monitors efficiency and quality metrics, assigns work and provides coaching to supervised staff, and addresses a variety of operational issues. The Supervisor directly contributes to Cardinal Health’s customer service reputation by ensuring that shipments are on-time and of high quality, develops the Warehouse Operations talent pool, and enhances operational excellence.

Location/Shift:

  • Location: This is an on-site position (5 days a week) based out of Cardinal Health’s Aurora, IL distribution center supporting pharmaceutical supply chain operations.
  • Shift Support: Tuesday-Saturday Inbound Operations Day Shift. Schedule assignment will vary based on work demands. Must be able to do either schedule when support is needed:
    • Schedule 1:
      • Tuesday-Friday: 5:00am-1:30pm
      • Saturday: 4:00am-12:30pm (or until work finish)
    • Schedule 2:
      • Tuesday-Friday: 7:00am-3:30pm
      • Saturday: 4:00am-12:30pm (or until work finish)

Responsibilities

  • Directs and manages a team of 20-30 Inbound Operations warehouse associates to achieve timely distribution and receipt of products and motivate employees to ensure that predetermined productivity and quality standards including cycle times, scans per hour, shortages, damaged units, missed dispatches, and missed scans, among others are achieved.
  • Monitors site productivity standards and hold associates accountable to daily, weekly, monthly metrics; provide timely feedback and initiate corrective action process when needed.
  • Adheres to budgetary guidelines and work to meet Distribution Center objectives and operational goals while maintaining standards pertaining to quality and inventory.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement projects and initiatives (ex. Gemba walks, Kaizen workshops, takt boards, etc.).
  • Performs daily scheduling of the workforce to ensure proper staffing to select, replenish, restock, locate and ship merchandise in a productive and cost-efficient manner.
  • Coordinates maintenance of equipment, guiding both preventive maintenance and coordinating all necessary repairs.
  • Actively engages in employee development, which includes training, coaching, counseling, and performance appraisals.
  • Majority of workday is spent on the floor while balancing administrative duties.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams at all levels within the organization, specifically within HR groups on a daily basis.
  • Interviews and makes hiring decisions for lead and associate level roles. 
  • Maintains general responsibility for disciplinary process in the area of counseling, oral and written warnings; ensure a productive work climate in the warehouse operation.
  • Prepares ad hoc reports, as necessary using Excel.
  • Responsible for accurate timekeeping, attendance/PTO records and ensure scheduling is maintained.
  • Holds staff accountable for conducting work in a safe manner while enforcing Cardinal Health compliance and regulations concerning OSHA, DEA, FDA, State and local authorities.
  • Assists with EHS audits, conduct Job Safety Observations (JSO), properly record and manage safety incidents, monitor employee safety behaviors/practices and provide feedback.
  • Assists with QRA audits and QRA non-conformance issues to properly address, conduct housekeeping observations and ensure employees complete required QRA training and documentation.
  • May be responsible for working in cold temperatures throughout segments of the shift.
  • Must be willing to be trained and certified on all equipment within the facility, including order picker (cherry picker), forklift, reach truck, turret truck, pallet jack, and walkie rider.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience, preferred
  • 4-8 years relevant experience, preferred
  • Previous experience working with material handling equipment (order picker, forklift, reach truck), preferred
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred
  • Proficiency in English is required, including being able to read and write in English in order to process documents
  • Previous experience leading a team
  • Prior experience with continuous improvement projects and initiatives, such as Lean or Six Sigma
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel (Pivot Tables and spreadsheets)
  • Experience working within ERPs (SAP or Manhattan) preferred 
  • Ability to problem solve through complex scenarios and drive change
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to bend, reach, stoop, lift and stand for entire shift

Anticipated salary range: $75,600 - $107,900 annually
