What does a day shift CNC programmer do?

A Day Shift CNC Programmer is responsible for creating and optimizing computer numerical control (CNC) programs used to operate machines that manufacture parts and components. Working during the day shift, they interpret technical drawings, select appropriate tools, and write code that directs machines to cut or shape materials accurately. They also troubleshoot and make adjustments to ensure quality and efficiency, often collaborating with machinists and engineers. Their work is critical in industries like aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing where precision machining is required.

What are the typical collaboration points between a day shift CNC programmer and other departments on the shop floor?

As a Day Shift CNC Programmer, you'll often work closely with machinists, production supervisors, and quality control teams to ensure that part programs meet both design specifications and production schedules. Communication is key, especially when troubleshooting machining issues or implementing process improvements. You'll also coordinate with engineering to clarify technical drawings and may participate in daily production meetings to address any bottlenecks or special project requirements. This collaborative environment helps maintain workflow efficiency and ensures high-quality output.
