Greater Philadelphia YMCA Employment Opportunity!
The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is hiring part-time instructors for its growing after-school watershed education program. Watershed Education by Bike (WEB) is a groundbreaking program that gets youth active by teaching them how to safely ride in urban, suburban and trail environments, while also focusing on watershed and environmental education. Bicycles allow students to get out of the classroom and offer hands-on experiential learning opportunities in the community. When working in multiple environments, instructors will lead a group of 13 students in grades 5th-8th on program-owned bicycles through the trails in Camden and Burlington Counties, NJ. When working in our school aged classroom setting, instructors will prepare and implement watershed education lessons/experiments with children grades K-8th.

What is needed for this job:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, college degree preferred
  • Must be available Monday - Friday between 2:00pm - 6:00pm
  • Experience or interest in physical activity & environmental education
  • Must be willing to travel throughout Camden City, and Burlington and Camden counties
  • Have a basic knowledge of bicycle mechanics and be able to ride a bicycle at 8-12 MPH
  • Strong classroom management, conflict resolution, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to complete tasks independently.

The responsibilities we will trust you with:
  • Teach participants basic bicycle safety and maintenance
  • Teach participants watershed and environmental education through the implementation of a provided program curriculum.
  • Establish relationships with local partners to help support the WEB program
  • Facilitate environmental education lessons and activities at several after-school sites
  • Assist in developing lessons based on provided resources
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
