We are seeking a highly motivated Construction Laborer who performs tasks involving physical labor at underground utility construction projects, operating a variety of hand and power tools, and assisting in various construction-related tasks. The Construction Laborer will be based in Charlotte, North Carolina and the position is non-exempt.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in underground utility construction projects; performs manual work in preparing the site for the contracted scope of work.

  • Shovels dirt, concrete, asphalt, and various other construction materials into construction areas.

  • Excavates and fills trenches and ditches.

  • Maintains a clean job site: picks up and delivers all tools and equipment and secures the job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.

  • Performs materials handling and storage.

  • Loads and unloads trucks and hauls and hoists materials.

  • Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the foreman, safety director, or supervisor.

  • Assist pipe layer, equipment operator, and foreman as needed.

  • Traffic control flagging as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures

  • Must have physical strength and endurance

  • Ability to lift heavy materials

  • Comfort working in high-stress environment with extreme weather fluctuations

Education and Experience:

  • Education: High school diploma/GED preferred

  • Experience: 2+ years construction industry experience preferred
