Job description

Position Summary
The HR & Safety Generalist supports daily human resources operations while coordinating plant-level safety programs and compliance in a union manufacturing environment. This role partners closely with leadership, employees, and union representatives to maintain a safe, compliant, and productive workplace.
Primary Responsibilities
Human Resources
  • Administer day-to-day HR operations in a 24/5 manufacturing facility
  • Support recruiting, including job postings, interview scheduling, onboarding, and orientation
  • Maintain HRIS data and employee records accuracy
  • Assist with attendance tracking, leave administration, and benefits communication
  • Respond to employee questions regarding policies, procedures, and workplace concerns
  • Support employee relations, including coaching, discipline, and corrective action processes
  • Interpret and administer company policies and collective bargaining agreements
  • Coordinate employee and compliance-related training programs
  • Assist with union-related activities, including grievance tracking and documentation
  • Support performance management and employee development initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws

Safety
  • Coordinate plant safety programs and initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
  • Conduct safety orientation and ongoing training programs
  • Maintain safety training records, SDS documentation, and compliance postings
  • Assist with incident, injury, and near-miss investigations and follow-up
  • Coordinate workers' compensation reporting and case management
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and engagement activities
  • Conduct safety audits and walkthroughs with operations leadership
  • Monitor PPE compliance and safety policy adherence
  • Support emergency preparedness and response efforts
  • Track safety metrics and recommend improvements to reduce risk

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Safety, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3-5 years of HR Generalist experience in a manufacturing environment

Preferred
  • Experience in a union environment
  • Experience with safety programs and OSHA compliance
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • First Aid/CPR certification

Work Environment
  • Regular presence on the manufacturing floor required
  • Ability to walk production areas and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Exposure to manufacturing conditions including noise, machinery, heat, and industrial materials
