Long-Term Elementary School Substitute Teacher (Potential for Full Time)

Position Type: Long-Term Substitute, Full-Time
Compensation: $70,000+ annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications
Benefits: Eligible for school benefits
Potential for Full-Time Employment: Yes

Position Summary

The school is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Long-Term Elementary School Substitute Teacher to provide consistent classroom instruction and support for our elementary students. This position is intended to provide continuity of learning, classroom management, and student support during an extended teacher absence.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, dependable, and student-centered educator who is comfortable assuming the responsibilities of a classroom teacher. This position also offers the potential to transition into a permanent, full-time elementary teaching position based on performance, qualifications, school needs, and mutual interest.

Here at Tahoe Expedition Academy we are committed to constructive adversity being a core value of our philosophy. With that means we prioritize learning in the field in a myriad of ways. Project based fieldwork is an essential piece of this position and the ideal candidate will take on outdoor adventure learning with care and dedication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide engaging, age-appropriate instruction aligned with the classroom teacher's curriculum, lesson plans, and learning objectives.
  • Assume responsibility for the daily operation and management of the assigned classroom.
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate classroom expectations, routines, and behavioral standards.
  • Deliver instruction across core elementary subject areas, including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the academic and developmental needs of individual students.
  • Monitor student progress and provide appropriate feedback and support.
  • Complete classroom assignments, assessments, grading, and other instructional responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assignments, and academic progress.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teachers, specialists, administrators, and support staff to promote student success.
  • Support the social-emotional development and overall well-being of students.
  • Address student behavior and disciplinary concerns in accordance with school policies and expectations.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other school activities as requested.
  • Follow all school policies, procedures, and expectations regarding student safety, supervision, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of an elementary classroom teacher.
  • Lead and support students in outdoor educational experiences that connect classroom learning to authentic, real-world environments.
  • Plan and facilitate age-appropriate outdoor learning activities that promote curiosity, collaboration, problem-solving, resilience, and independence.
  • Participate in day trips, field studies, academic adventures, and other off-campus learning experiences as required. Some overnight and multi-day expeditions are to be expected.
  • Participate in overnight and multi-day expeditions, including evenings and weekends when applicable to the school calendar and program needs.
  • Provide consistent supervision and care for students throughout overnight experiences, including meals, transitions, evening routines, sleeping arrangements, and morning routines.
  • Work with Adventure Guides to maintain a high standard of student safety and risk awareness during outdoor activities, fieldwork, travel, and overnight experiences.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred.
  • Valid teaching credential or appropriate teaching experience preferred.
  • Previous elementary classroom teaching experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Dependable, flexible, professional, and adaptable.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the academic, social, and emotional growth of students.
Potential Full-Time Opportunity

This position is designed to provide continuity during a long-term absence while also allowing the school and teacher an opportunity to evaluate a potential long-term professional fit. Depending on school needs, performance, qualifications, and mutual interest, the position may transition into a permanent full-time elementary teaching position.

A successful candidate will demonstrate strong instructional skills, effective classroom management, professionalism, collaboration, reliability, and a genuine commitment to the school's students and educational mission.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated salary for this position is $70,000+ annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is eligible for the school's applicable employee benefits package.

Final compensation and employment terms will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and the scope of the position.
