As we expand, we are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive individual to join our team and support contract accounting activities across multiple business units.Position Summary:The Contract Accountant - Job Cost manages financial accounting and cost control for construction and service contracts from award through closeout. This role maintains the job cost ledger, prepares progress billings and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, tracks budgets against actual costs, and works with project managers to ensure each job is accurately costed and reported. The position also supports revenue recognition for long-term contracts and helps ensure timely, compliant customer invoicing.Key Responsibilities:Support the setting up new contracts/jobs in the accounting system, including budgets, cost codes, schedule of values, and contract terms.Maintain the job cost ledger - review labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs to the correct jobs and cost codes.Prepare monthly work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, including costs incurred, percentage complete, earned revenue, and over/under billings.Reconcile job costs to the general ledger and investigate variances between budgeted, committed, and actual costs.Track and account for change orders, ensuring approved changes are reflected in contract value and budgets.Support revenue recognition under the percentage-of-completion method and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (ASC 606).Assist with month-end and year-end close, including job cost accruals and journal entries.Collaborate with project managers to review job profitability, forecast costs to complete, and flag at-risk jobs.Provide schedules and support for external auditors, sureties, and bonding companies.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, engineering, or a project-based / contract environment.Working knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to reconcile complex cost data.Effective communication skills to partner with project managers, division leaders, and senior management.Compensation and Benefits:Competitive salary Health, dental and vision insurancePaid time off401k plan with employer matching contributionEqual Opportunity Employer:Metro Elevator is committed to providing reasonable accommodation as an Equal Opportunity Employer to applicants with disabilities.
