The Physics Group is seeking outstanding cryogenics engineers at all experience levels. We are a hardworking group of scientists, engineers, and physicists who strive to develop innovative cryogenic technologies for the benefit of our nation. As a Cryogenics Engineer, you will: * Support existing programs through day-to-day operations of various systems and experiments. * Supply high-quality ideas and insights on both existing and future problems, leading to novel solutions applicable to APL's mission and sponsor needs.
* Perform creative, independent research characterizing thermal, magnetic, and electrical properties of materials in dry 1K, 4K and dilution refrigerator systems. * Collaborate with a team of physicists, electrical engineers, materials scientists, and fabrication technicians to design experiments, process data, and present findings. * Be encouraged to fill leadership roles on existing projects, and to propose new research directions for APL's sponsors. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... * Possess a Bachelor's Degree or higher in physics, engineering or a closely related field (e.g., materials science, applied physics).
* Have 1+ year experience with cryogenic systems or in characterizing materials or systems at cryogenic temperatures.
* Have a strong desire to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary, applied science environment.
* Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI w/ Polygraph security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and need to meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You will go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... * Have a Master's degree or higher in engineering, physics, or a closely related field.
* Have experience measuring thermal and electrical properties of materials at cryogenic temperatures.
* Have experience designing and troubleshooting experimental setups in cryogenic systems.
* Have extensive experience operating millikelvin test systems.

Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
