Description
AOA Music Instructors teach community music students private lessons in their respective field (piano, violin, voice, cello, etc.) and other classes as assigned.
Job Duties
Teach a full 15-week semester of private lessons for various ages and levels maintaining a 12-hour per week teaching load during the fall and spring semesters. On-campus teaching will be limited to those students who have registered through the Academy of the Arts, Music. All lessons must be taught at the Academy.
  • Teach classes in music theory, music appreciation, music history, etc. for ages and levels listed above as needed.
  • Maintain lesson plans, working syllabi, information profiles, homework material, etc. for class and private students.
  • Attend scheduled Academy of the Arts, Music faculty meetings.
  • Attend Academy of the Arts, Music recitals when your students are participating; help to prepare the hall before, supervise participants during recitals, and stay to clean up after recitals.
  • Assist with registration of new and returning students for upcoming semesters.
  • Prepare and update the private teaching schedule after the studio is established.
  • Communicate with the Music Coordinator regarding any change in schedule.
  • Maintain sensitivity to the various constituencies of Samford University and the School of Arts.
  • Understand and make a commitment to Samford University and the School of Art's purpose.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Ability to report to work daily, five days per week.
  • Ability to remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to attend weekend events and recitals, as necessary.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum two (2) years of full-time teaching experience.
