Position Overview
As an Aerial Ground Hand, you will support aerial line work by assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of aerial cables, wires, and equipment. This role requires close collaboration with aerial crews to ensure all tasks are performed safely and efficiently.
What You'll Do
  • Support and assist all aerial construction crews, projects, and efforts
  • Help with site preparation and make-ready projects in other construction divisions
  • Operate a bucket truck following all safety and traffic regulations (after completing safety training)
  • Assist with pole framing and placement of stands
  • Climb poles as required
  • Operate various hand and power tools
  • Assist with installation of guys and anchors
  • Learn to read and update as-builts
  • Gain knowledge of all aspects of aerial construction
  • Follow all directions from the aerial crew lead
  • Assist with directing traffic flow in accordance with local DOT guidelines
  • Mentor new hires as needed
  • Stay current on industry technology and developments
  • Communicate effectively with other departments to resolve issues quickly
  • Function as a supportive, team-oriented employee
  • Uphold GridSource's mission, vision, and values
  • Use strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with sound judgment

What You'll Need
  • Previous broadband industry experience preferred
  • Willingness to climb poles (with proper equipment), ladders, and other structures
  • Working knowledge of construction, NEC, OSHA regulations, state/local regulations, and safety standards
  • Ability to occasionally reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 95 lbs.
  • Ability to lift a 32-foot ladder
  • High school diploma or GED (some college or vocational training preferred)
  • Ability to work in confined spaces such as crawl spaces when required
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions
  • Willingness to work near moving mechanical parts, with occasional exposure to electrical shock, radiation, and vibration
  • Flexibility to work more than 40 hours per week and outside of normal business hours (holidays, evenings, weekends) as business needs require
