Job description

Job Overview:
  • The DataCenter Technician will support server validation, hardware deployment, system configuration, and infrastructure maintenance within a high-volume laboratory and data center environment. 
  • This role involves troubleshooting server hardware, networking, power distribution systems, and operating systems while supporting engineering validation activities and ensuring reliable data center operations.

Requirement/Must Have:

  • Experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining x86 server platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of server hardware components including CPUs, memory, storage, networking, and PCIe devices.
  • Experience installing and configuring Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, firmware, and operating system issues.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals including switch configurations, VLANs, and subnetting.
  • Experience with remote management technologies such as BMC, IPMI, serial consoles, and KVM-over-IP.
  • Ability to work safely with sensitive hardware components and follow ESD procedures.
  • Strong documentation and problem-solving skills.

Experience:

  • Experience working in data center, server validation, or hardware lab environments.
  • Experience with x86 server architecture and modern server technologies.
  • Experience supporting hardware and firmware validation activities.
  • Experience troubleshooting rack-level power and network infrastructure.
  • Basic scripting or automation experience preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain x86 server platforms within validation and testing environments.
  • Perform system bring-up, BIOS updates, firmware updates, and platform configuration.
  • Install and configure Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
  • Diagnose and isolate hardware failures involving processors, memory, storage, networking, and power subsystems.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues and validate switch configurations.
  • Support rack-level networking infrastructure and connectivity requirements.
  • Diagnose and resolve rack-level power distribution and balancing issues.
  • Analyze system logs, firmware outputs, and operating system errors.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to reproduce issues and validate fixes.
  • Utilize remote management tools for system access, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Execute test procedures and assist with automation or scripting activities.
  • Manage rack infrastructure including cabling, airflow optimization, hardware replacement, and lifecycle management.
  • Maintain inventory records, asset tracking, and shipping or receiving processes.
  • Follow laboratory safety standards and ESD handling procedures.
  • Support multiple concurrent validation and troubleshooting activities.

Should Have:

  • Experience working in high-density server or data center environments.
  • Familiarity with PCIe Gen4, PCIe Gen5, NVMe, and RAID technologies.
  • Understanding of hardware validation and engineering support processes.
  • Strong analytical and root cause investigation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced technical environments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity for handling hardware components and tools.
  • Ability to work at rack height and use ladders when necessary.
  • Comfortable working in data center or laboratory environments with varying temperatures and elevated noise levels.
