Job description

NOC Technician

The Network Operations Center (NOC) Technician plays a crucial, frontline role in maintaining the integrity of the campus IT infrastructure. This position is responsible for Tier-1 monitoring and incident response, covering campus networks, servers, cloud environments, and enterprise applications. The NOC Technician acts as the primary steward for all physical IT assets housed within the campus data centers and computing spaces. Key responsibilities include ensuring the facility's stability, health, and security while efficiently escalating complex issues to the appropriate engineering and development teams.

The full salary range for the Systems Analyst is $39.89 - $60.35 per hour. However, the pay scale for this position is up to $49.60 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, UCR is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. - Required

Certification Requirements

Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Data Center - Preferred

Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) Networking - Preferred

Minimum Requirements

Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

Demonstrated experience writing and editing scripts of moderate complexity used to perform system maintenance and administration.

Demonstrated knowledge of computer security best practices and policies.

Familiarity with server hardware including memory and disks.

Familiarity with basic systems administration tasks in Windows and Linux.

Knowledge and abilities using IT Service Management tools such as ServiceNow, Remedy, RT, Pinnacle or Magic.

Knowledge of installing rack mounted servers and network equipment in standard datacenter racks.

Knowledge of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) practices, out-of-band management technologies (e.g., iLO, iDRAC), and enterprise cabling standards.

Hands-on experience with enterprise monitoring, alerting, and telemetry platforms (e.g., Solarwinds, Pingdom, Google Cloud Logging) for proactive incident detection

Preferred Qualifications

Understanding of physical data center health monitoring, including power distribution (PDUs), cooling thresholds, and physical access controls

Knowledge of Network Administration software and applications - Infoblox, Cisco Catalyst Center, CPI

Familiarity with ITIL processes, specifically Incident Management, Problem Management, and Change Management
