Construction Accountant Role:

As a member of the Company’s Accounting team, the Construction Accountant is responsible for day-to-day financial management of all on-going construction projects.  These activities include, but are not limited to, maintaining adequate controls and regular financial tracking and reporting on construction related issues.  The ideal candidate has prior experience in construction, contracting, or a related field and is well-versed in job cost accounting functions.

Duties:

  • Maintain accurate project financial records by tracking costs, monitoring budgets, preparing forecasts, analyzing variances, and applying appropriate accounting practices throughout the project lifecycle. 
    • Manage the full project accounting lifecycle, including project setup, budget maintenance, change order processing, invoice review and processing, payment administration, and project closeout within the accounting system
  • Participate in month-end and quarter-end close processes, including project cost accruals, account reconciliations and other necessary journal entries.
  • Independently resolve routine accounting issues while supporting the Senior Construction Accounting Manager with department procedures, process improvements, and reporting requirements. Partner with construction project managers and other stakeholders to maintain accurate project budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and capitalization guidelines.
  • Support Senior Construction Accounting Manager on procedures, processes and requirements.
  • Provide support for additional financial, accounting, and operational needs, as well as other projects and duties as assigned.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects and analyses as needed based on business development.
  • Promote and demonstrate the behaviors consistent with CoreSite’s culture and core values

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment, with regular onsite presence of up to 2 days per week.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 10% of the time with the potential for increased travel or in-office presence as business needs evolve.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively communicating with project managers, vendors, and cross functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, change orders, retainage, project closeout processes, and job cost accounting principles.
  • Self-starter who is adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent listening, written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Exhibits a strong work ethic and accountability to deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards (or comparable ERP systems) and Hyperion Essbase a plus.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (PivotTables, Power Query, lookup functions)

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.  Equivalent accounting and construction industry experience will be considered in place of formal education. 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in construction, project cost, or development accounting.
  • Experience in accounting for publicly traded or privately owned real estate investment
  • trusts (REITs), other property-owning entities, or technology companies is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in construction, contracting, or a related field, with strong knowledge of job cost accounting functions.
  • Knowledge of the data center or telecommunications industry preferred

Compensation:
Compensation for this role includes a base salary between $80,000 and $95,000. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus and equity, based upon individual and company performance.
