Overview
Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) organization is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for an individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world's largest online services.
The Senior Datacenter Design Manager will manage the engineering scope, schedule, and budget for greenfield, brownfield and retrofit engineering / design projects. This position will manage internal and external resources for the delivery of the Datacenter building, power, cooling, telecom, and controls infrastructure to align with Microsoft Corporation datacenter capacity roadmap.
The Senior Datacenter Design Manager will be responsible for the facilitation and delivery of Microsoft's industry-leading datacenter designs including the development of innovative technology and advanced concepts from Site Due Diligence through design development, permitting, construction, and the turnover to Operations. This role will provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and overall leadership for our datacenter designs. To be successful in this role the candidate will oversee the delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete Datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes, schedules, and budgets of the projects. The Senior Datacenter Design Manager will engage with key Microsoft stakeholder groups as well as outside vendors who specialize in datacenter architecture and engineering.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate a team of architects, engineers and designers and deliver projects aligned with the defined scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Collaborate with on-site operations teams to perform feasibility / gap analysis for conversion of existing datacenter spaces to new / upgraded uses.

  • Have communication, organization, and leadership skills.

  • Possess a high level of proficiency in commercial and industrial architecture and engineering with a primary focus on datacenter design.

  • Should be able to work with other technical and non-technical groups in a fast-paced environment and do so with an even temperament.

  • Should be a person of integrity, be methodical, detailed-oriented with work ethic.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of experience in engineering, Architecture, construction engineering, technical understanding of mission critical environments OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years' experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team design/construction projects.
    Other Requirements
    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years of engineering, architecture, construction engineering.

    • 5+ years experience leading cross discipline engineering / Architectural teams in design for construction projects.

    • Registered Professional Engineer or Architect

    • PMP certification

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
