Job Summary:
Omega Solutions, Inc. is focused on modernizing technology for the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education. The Database Administrator will design, implement, and maintain complex databases while ensuring data governance and privacy standards are met.
Responsibilities:
• This position requires the ability to serve in an advanced level role that designs and supports database management systems (DBMS) of high complexity.
• Under general direction, designs, implements, and maintains highly complex databases.
• The ability to work independently and under the direct supervision of the Director of Data Management and IT to ensure the planning and completion of diverse database and infrastructure tasks.
• Identifies current and future threats in the database structure and help the organization reach an acceptable level of risk.
• Designs, monitors, supports, and maintains databases of a highly complex nature.
• Analyzes data requirements, application and processing architectures, data dictionaries, and database schema(s).
• Identifies resources required for database designs including upgrades, expansions, and enhancements.
• Analyzes database efficiency by conducting tests and running diagnostics to forecast performance thresholds.
• Forecast future database needs to allow increase data collection capacity.
• Prepares status reports and provides updates to project stakeholders, sponsors, champion, etc.
• Coordinates requests and recommends changes from original specifications with project sponsor, project team, or stakeholders.
• Provides direction and guidance to staff concerning program issues.
• Responds to requests for information from employees.
• Designs, develops, amends, optimizes, and certifies database schema design to meet system(s) requirements.
• Analyzes, and normalizes relevant information related to business processes, functions, and operations to evaluate data credibility and determine relevance and meaning.
• Consults with the Director of Data Management & IT to provide solutions for routine problems.
• Monitors and reports on database traffic, usage, and performance.
• Evaluates, analyzes, and normalizes data sources, complex business rules and processes, technical systems, data requirements, information needs, and data delivery requirements to develop comprehensive and integrated data architectures that support the needs of agencies.
• Evaluates organizational readiness, future needs, and shifts in prevailing technologies to proactively plan for an organization's future with respect to data management.
• Develops strategy and sets guidelines for technical documentation methods and procedures.
• Serves as the technical expert and in-depth knowledge base for the agency's information technology applications.
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with the agency's leadership team, senior management and officials, and vendors.
• Works with a third-party vendor to perform routine system analysis.
• Interfaces across the agency's offices to gain consensus for a coherent architectural strategy for IT solutions.
• Provides consultation and assistance to the Director of Data Management & IT and agency management in the development of implementation approaches, including transition strategies, interfaces with legacy and external applications, and orders of deployment to maintain architectural integrity.
• Monitors market trends and work of standards bodies to assist management and the customer in defining technical standards.
• Ensures tasks associated with the delivery of projects are completed on time with a high degree of quality.
• Provides comprehensive consultation at the highest technical level to ensure that solutions adhere to architectural recommendations, standards, and processes.
• Leverages strong technical skills and knowledge of business operations to resolve complex technology issues.
