Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
 
Performs and is responsible for the development and maintenance of rdbms
platforms and database objects and with data access control supporting
OLTP or analytic software applications on at least one major rdbms
platform. Is responsible for database performance
monitoring and tuning activities.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
*1. Assumes sole ownership of database administration activities
including creating database's and data objects and managing database
access.
*2. Assists in evaluating DBA monitoring and productivity tools.
*3. Performs complex relational database management tasks for both
development and production applications. Assists in database tuning when
applicable.
*4. Identifies, documents and tracks all database related performance problems assisting in their resolution.
*5. Performs tasks to develop database and data object creation scripts and to automate data management alerts.
*6. Collects data for Database monitoring metrics and reporting.
*7. Assists in developing, gathering data for and reporting of metrics.
*8. Develops database management skills and assists with the development of junior dba's.
*9. Works on projects of moderate to high complexity within one or more
development environments. Works on multiple systems/rdbms platforms as a
project team member.
10. Consistently performs tasks with minimal supervision and re-work.
11. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
*Denotes essential functions.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrates working knowledge of at least one major rdbms technology (excluding Access).
Demonstrates the ability to provide database production support of
critical systems including backup and recovery, database object creation
and administration, performance tuning of queries and data structures.
Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills along
with good administrative and facilitation skills. Must be able to
communicate difficult/sensitive information in a diplomatic and tactful
way.
Demonstrates solid knowledge of at least one business area or system/rdbms
