Employment Type: Remote
Annexa is currently supporting DC Government's Office of the Chief Technology Officer and seeking an IBM DB2 Database Administrator. The DB2 Database Administrator will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing the DB2 database environment that supports the DESTINY application. This role will ensure high availability, performance, data integrity, and seamless operation of the DMVโ€™s missionโ€‘critical systems. The role will be responsible for managing, configuring, and maintaining DB2 databases running on mainframe platforms. This role will perform database installation, upgrades, patches, migrations, and version management. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and tune DB2 components to ensure high availability. Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to meet OCTO/DMV continuity requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • The Senior DB2 database administrator position requires in-depth knowledge of IBMDB2 database background using with IBM Utilities and BMC tools
  • Support the DESTINY application team by optimizing database queries, stored procedures, packages, and triggers.
  • Work closely with developers to integrate enhancements, fixes, and new functionalities aligned with business needs.
  • Ensure application releases and data model changes are synchronized with database environments.
  • Maintain data integrity through robust data validation, referential integrity, and error-handling practices.
  • Enforce database security standards, user access controls, and audit requirements consistent with DC government policies.
  • Support compliance with privacy and data protection rules applicable to DMVโ€‘related personal information.
  • Use DB2 monitoring tools to proactively identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Analyze SQL performance, query execution plans, and recommend optimizations.
  • Tune databases, memory pools, indexes, and storage structures for improved system throughput.
  • Support ongoing fixes, enhancements, and modernization efforts related to the DESTINY system.
  • Collaborate with OCTO infrastructure teams on server performance, storage, and network connectivity affecting DB2.
  • Implement schema modifications, table restructuring, indexing strategies, and partitioning as required.
  • Provides technical knowledge and support to District agencies, personnel, and additional stakeholders.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • May coordinate activities of application developers.
  • Able to identify best practices and standards for the use of the product.
  • Delivers support and design for industry specific applications that require integration with statewide systems or applications.
  • Interacts with executive level business users or technical experts.
  • May function as a niche technical SME (Subject Matter Expert).
Required Skills:
  • 16 years of experience with database design, documentation, and coding.
  • 16+ years of experience with SQL.
  • 16+ years of experience designing and implementing reports and report interfaces.
  • 16+ years of strong hands-on experience with IBM DB2 (LUW or z/OS depending on environment).
