Job description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Management: Install, configure, and maintain IBM i-based databases (DB2 for i, etc.) and ensure they are optimized for performance.
  • Backup and Recovery: Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies for IBM i-based databases.
  • Performance Tuning: Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of IBM i database systems, including query optimization, indexing, and system resources management.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement security measures to protect sensitive data, including user access control, auditing, and encryption. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • System Upgrades: Plan and execute database upgrades and patches on IBM i platforms with minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, including system performance, connectivity, and integrity issues.
  • Database Maintenance: Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including reorganization, index rebuilds, and data archiving.
  • Collaboration: Work with developers to design and optimize database schemas, stored procedures, and queries. Assist in database-related development and deployment tasks.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation related to database configurations, procedures, and policies.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator, specifically with IBM i (AS/400) and DB2 for i.
  • In-depth knowledge of IBM i operating system (OS/400), database management, and tools like IBM Navigator for i, STRSQL, etc.
  • Expertise in database performance tuning, backup, recovery, and security.
  • Strong understanding of SQL and relational database management principles.
  • Experience with IBM i system hardware, memory, and storage configurations.
  • Familiarity with IBM i job management, work management, and system resources.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and regulatory compliance standards related to database management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IBM i Certifications (e.g., IBM Certified Database Administrator โ€“ DB2 for i).
  • Experience with other database technologies (e.g., MySQL, Oracle) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with IBM Power Systems hardware.
  • Familiarity with Cloud Computing, Nodejs, any other IBM MDM tools (Informatica).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 10+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on IBM i systems and DB2 for i.
