What is a database internship?

Database internships are short-term work opportunities for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in database management and related technologies. Interns typically assist with tasks such as data entry, database maintenance, writing queries, and supporting data migration projects under the supervision of experienced professionals. These internships help individuals develop practical skills in database systems like SQL, Oracle, or MongoDB, and can serve as a stepping stone to a full-time career in data management or database administration.

What types of projects or tasks can a database intern expect to work on during their internship?

As a Database Intern, you can expect to assist with a variety of hands-on tasks such as designing, updating, and maintaining databases, performing data cleansing, and supporting data migration efforts. You'll often collaborate with database administrators and developers, helping with performance tuning, writing queries, and generating reports. Interns typically gain exposure to tools like SQL, database management systems (DBMS), and sometimes cloud platforms, providing valuable, real-world experience that can lead to more advanced roles in database administration or data engineering.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a database intern, and why are they important?

Job description

Why we love working at PIE:

PIE is a leading business development partner for professional services firms, creating global connections with a distinctly human touch. We provide excellent service for our clients and partners and pride ourselves on delivering the lagniappe (the little extra in a baker's dozen!). The work we do every day is fascinating - we drive meaningful, intimate conversations among leaders in business, non-profits, and non-government organizations looking to solve their most pressing challenges and learn from peers. Our mission is to make the world smaller and smarter by connecting powerful minds.

Our people are the heart of our business and culture. We are an inclusive, employee-owned company. We come from all over the country and across the state of Montana. We are a community of unique individuals with many lived experiences: former legislators, ski racers, movie producers, Peace Corp volunteers, marketing leaders, and teachers. We are a team of curious self-starters who love to learn. Our culture of belonging invites all our unique experiences to the table, where we innovate, problem-solve, and share a passion for doing great work while living full lives. We work as a team to support each other's passions and ambitions, both in and out of work. In addition to offering competitive benefits, PIE values and invests in its employees' health and well-being. We are committed to ongoing education, career development, and training. To nourish our culture and build relationships, PIE holds several annual company gatherings/outings. PIE cares about the communities we live in: we participate in events and programs to strengthen our commitment to inclusivity, engaging in community outreach and volunteering with organizations that support the Gallatin Valley.

PIE's commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity:

PIE is committed to creating an equitable, inclusive, diverse and sustainable work environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, marital status, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, political affiliation, or veteran status.

We believe that corporations' bad behavior disproportionately hurts the most marginalized people in society - including people of color, women, and LGBTQ+ people. We believe efforts to make our company more diverse, equitable, and inclusive are central to the success of our business. We strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities.

About the Internship:

Project coordination is critical to all aspects of our client projects and our business, ensuring information is accurate and deadlines are met. This Project Coordinator (PC) Intern is focused on supporting executive roundtable communities for C-level executives on a global scale. The PC Intern will work closely with PIE Project Coordinators managing our community membership information. PIE is committed to the success and development of our employees. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build a solid foundation to launch a professional career in business.

Over the course of the internship, the PC Intern will:

  • Work as a member of the Project Coordinator Team
  • Be part of the team that launches new projects at PIE
  • Become familiar with the world of business and how companies are structured
  • Develop strong business communication skills
  • Learn skills resulting in a high level of organization
  • Learn about the keys to driving successful client-centric projects
  • Maintain accurate and detailed database of client information via Salesforce CRM Software, Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets
  • Prepare documents for client projects
  • Check-in with team and supervisor to discuss effective strategies
  • Research and source executive contact information
  • Recruit executives to join PIE-powered communities and events via phone, email, and LinkedIn outreach
  • We all wear many hats at PIE - complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

We are looking for motivated individuals who embrace responsibility, have a keen eye for detail, and can manage multiple tasks simultaneously. To succeed in the position, individuals must be efficient, organized, flexible, and detail oriented. Project Coordinator Interns are eager to learn and improve organizational efficiency, enjoy working in a collaborative environment, and are not afraid to pick up the phone and call an executive office anywhere in the world. Individuals must have strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Salesforce are preferred. PIE operates on Microsoft 365 platforms. If you meet at least 75% of the qualifications, we strongly encourage you to apply - let's talk!

Pay: Competitive DOQ

Hours: 15-30 hours/week, spanning across 2-5 days/week (flexible depending on candidate's schedule and work demand). General Hours of Operation: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM MT, Monday through Thursday and 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM MT Friday. Our work occasionally requires tasks outside of general office hours. PIE allows employees to adjust their schedules accordingly.

Length of Internship: Internship will run concurrently with the university term, with an option to extend into a second term based on PIE's needs and Intern's performance

Position Location: We are looking for candidates to work with us in Bozeman, Montana.

PIE Mission:
