About the role
Provide technical leadership across Data Engineering in a healthcare data environment. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership and communication skills to influence direction across teams. The Staff Data Engineer acts as a trusted technical partner to internal and external stakeholders, guiding architectural decisions, mentoring peers, and ensuring delivery of customer-facing data solutions that create measurable business impact. Success in this role requires balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution, translating complex requirements into scalable, maintainable systems while fostering collaboration and alignment across Product, Data Science, and Engineering teams.
What you'll do
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship; participate in architecture/design reviews and drive cross-team initiatives.
  • Help architect and evolve the ELT platform at scale: CDC/ingest, orchestration, transformation, runtime/ops model, and data export.
  • Integrate healthcare data sources (EHR/FHIR, labs, genomics, wearables, claims) with strong data governance.
  • Build and maintain secure, high-quality data pipelines and customer-facing data products.
  • Partner with Data Science to design and operationalize feature pipelines, model inputs, serving, and monitoring.
  • Deliver AI/ML platform capabilities including feature stores, model hosting, monitoring, and retrieval workflows.
  • Lead AI adoption across Data Engineering: copilot, codegen templates, agents, automated data documentation/dictionary, and AI-assisted data quality triage.
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into scalable data solutions.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years building and operating production data systems; recent Staff-level IC experience.
  • Proven technical leadership across architecture, design, and cross-functional delivery.
  • Strong background in data engineering
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Snowflake, DBT, Airflow/Prefect/Dagster, and streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis) and database CDC.
  • Expert-level SQL and proficiency in Python/Scala with tests/CI for data code.
  • Cloud infrastructure experience (S3, Kubernetes/EKS) and IaC (Terraform/Pulumi).
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Streamlit, Tableau, Looker) and reporting automation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Deep Snowflake expertise (micropartitions, clustering, cost optimization).
  • Experience integrating healthcare or regulated data sources (EHR, FHIR, HL7, wearable, or partner datasets such as Datavant).
  • Experience scaling dbt and managing enterprise data testing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with vector databases, LLMs, and RAG/LLMOps pipelines.
  • Experience delivering using AI-powered data engineering tools (copilot, sandboxes, automated documentation).
