Job description

Role Summary
This contract role requires an experienced Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator with open-source database experience to support enterprise-scale environments. The successful candidate will manage both on-premises and cloud-based SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security. There is potential for conversion to a permanent position based on performance and business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage SQL Server databases across development, testing, production, and disaster recovery environments.
  • Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server instances in accordance with established standards.
  • Administer and support PostgreSQL environments, with exposure to additional RDBMS platforms such as MongoDB.
  • Perform database backups, restores, disaster recovery tests, and monitor capacity and performance metrics.
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server issues related to performance, connectivity, integrity, blocking, and high-availability configurations.
  • Support high-availability technologies including Always-On Availability Groups, failover clustering, and Distributed Availability Groups.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using T-SQL, PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or similar technologies for operational workflows.
  • Support database deployment across Azure and AWS cloud environments and participate in DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
  • Work within a ticketing system to handle incidents, service requests, and urgent operational tasks.
  • Contribute to database standards, architecture discussions, and ongoing process improvements.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA managing SQL Server 2016โ€“2022; experience with SQL Server 2025 is a plus.
  • Proven abilities in managing PostgreSQL and MongoDB in production environments.
  • Experience with Azure and AWS cloud database services and cloud administration.
  • Strong knowledge of high-availability technologies such as Always-On AGs and Distributed Availability Groups.
  • Experience working within virtualized environments (VMware) and familiarity with Zerto is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in scripting with T-SQL and PowerShell; exposure to Python and Ansible is preferred.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED required.

Publishing Pay Range: $84.00 - $86.00 hourly

This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
