About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and optimize relational databases in AWS. This role focuses on Amazon RDS for Oracle, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, and Amazon RDS for SQL Server.

You will own the full lifecycle of database operations including provisioning, configuration, upgrades, performance tuning, backup and recovery, security, and daily support. In addition, you will provide technical leadership, define cloud database standards, build runbooks, and drive automation to ensure high performance, availability, and reliability across environments.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Operations

  • Administer and support Amazon RDS and Aurora environments across Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server platforms.
  • Manage database provisioning, configuration, patching, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance.

Provisioning & Configuration

  • Design, deploy, and configure RDS instances and Aurora clusters.
  • Define instance sizing, storage allocation, parameter groups, option groups, subnet groups, maintenance windows, Multi-AZ deployments, and read replicas.

High Availability & Disaster Recovery

  • Implement and validate HA/DR strategies including Multi-AZ deployments, failover configurations, and cross-region replication.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery runbooks with defined RTO and RPO targets.

Backup, Restore & Environment Management

  • Perform regular restore testing and support environment refreshes for Dev, QA, and UAT.

Performance Monitoring & Tuning

  • Monitor and troubleshoot performance using CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and Enhanced Monitoring.
  • Analyze query performance, wait events, and system behavior to implement tuning improvements across all supported engines.

Security & Compliance

  • Enforce least-privilege access using IAM and database roles.
  • Implement VPC-based network isolation, security groups, encryption at rest (KMS), and encryption in transit (TLS).
  • Configure auditing and logging through CloudWatch Logs.

Patching & Upgrades

  • Plan and execute database engine upgrades and patching with minimal downtime.
  • Coordinate testing and implement blue/green or staged deployment strategies where applicable.

Automation & Infrastructure as Code

  • Automate database operations using scripting (AWS CLI/SDKs).
  • Partner with DevOps to manage infrastructure using Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Integrate database checks into CI/CD pipelines.

Migration & Data Movement

  • Collaborate with developers and platform teams to optimize database design and performance.

Documentation & Standards

  • Maintain detailed documentation including runbooks, standards, automation scripts, and health check reporting.
  • Establish and enforce database best practices.

Qualifications
