Role:ย Senior Database Administrator

Location: Onsite- Fairfax, VA 3 Days and in Washington, DC 2 Days per Week.

Duration: Long Term Contract

Jobย Description:

The Senior Database Administrator role requires a candidate with over 10 years of experience in database development, data migration, modernization, data virtualization, and operations & maintenance (O&M) administration support. The role includes architecting, optimizing, and maintaining enterprise database environments while leading data migration initiatives and engaging directly with end users and stakeholders to ensure effective data solutions. This role requires strong technical leadership, deep domain expertise, and experience delivering reliable, scalable, secure data platforms.

Primary Responsibilities:ย 

  • Design, implement, and optimize enterprise-grade databases across relational and cloud environments.
  • Lead database modernization initiatives, including platform upgrades, schema redesign, data virtualization, and migration to newer technologies.
  • Establish and enforce database development standards, performance optimization strategies, and data governance best practices.
  • Lead large-scale data migration projects involving legacy-to-modern platforms, cloud migrations, cross-database transfers, and multi-environment synchronization.
  • Develop migration plans, ETL pipelines, scripts, and automated workflows ensuring accuracy, integrity, and minimal downtime.
  • Conduct preโ€‘migration assessments, risk analysis, and postโ€‘migration validation.
  • Oversee day-to-day database O&M activities including performance tuning, patching, monitoring, capacity planning, and backup/restore procedures.
  • Ensure high availability, disaster recovery readiness, and optimal uptime for missionโ€‘critical systems.
  • Enforce database security policies including identity management, access controls, encryption, and auditing practices.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in computer science or a technical field
  • 10+ years in computer science and database development, modernization, and data virtualization
  • Experience performing data migrations from legacy data stores on-premise to AWS GovCloud
  • Experience with cloud-based architecture, preferably AWS data services (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, Glue, DMS) and AWS Data Analytics.
  • Strong scripting capabilities (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation and migration tasks.
  • Excellent communication and management skills.

Certifications Preferred:

  • AWS Data Analytics
  • IBM Data Architect
  • CompTIA DataSys+

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be have an active DoD Secret clearance.

Work Location:

3 days in Fairfax, VA, 2 days in Washington, D.C.
