Job description

Data Engineer
The Opportunity:
A well-architected, fully secured data ecosystem is essential for enabling the Department of War (DoW) to execute its mission with precision, speed, and resilience. As a Database Engineer specializing in Zero Trust, you serve as a critical technical leader ensuring that enterprise and mission-critical data systems remain secure, scalable, and aligned with evolving operational demands.
In this role, you apply deep expertise in database architecture, data security, access control, and automation to design, implement, and maintain trusted data environments across complex, multi-domain infrastructures. You collaborate closely with subject matter experts, mission owners, cybersecurity teams, and platform engineers to translate strategic objectives into robust, Zero Trust-aligned data solutions that protect sensitive information at every layer.
As a Zero Trust Database Engineer, you play a pivotal role in the design, integration, and operationalization of secure data architectures that enable mission systems to operate with confidence even under contested or degraded conditions. Your work strengthens the DoW's ability to defend, detect, and respond across the full spectrum of operations while advancing the department's long-term modernization strategy.
This position places you at the intersection of data engineering, cybersecurity, and mission readiness, offering the opportunity to shape the future of secure data operations while continuously expanding your technical mastery.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 5+ years of experience in database engineering with a primary focus on security rather than just performance
  • Experience with integrating databases with enterprise Identity Providers (IdP) and managing complex RBAC and ABAC models
  • Experience with the DoD Zero Trust Strategy
  • Experience with TLS 1.3, PKI, HSMs, and transparent data encryption
  • Ability to map technical controls to the Data and Visibility pillars
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • HS diploma or GED

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience with system design, including scalability and reliability
  • Experience with database encryption, including field-level encryption
  • Experience with securing managed database services such as RDS, Aurora, and Azure SQL using cloud-native security tools
  • Experience with HashiCorp Vault, Beyond Trust, or AWS Secrets Manager
  • Experience with embedding database security checks directly into CI/CD pipelines

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
