Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Lenexa, KS that is looking for a Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA)/Data Engineer.
Overview:
In this dual role, the right candidate will administer, secure, and optimize the client's SQL Server database environment while designing, implementing, and managing the data architecture that supports the organization's data strategy. You will collaborate with various departments to ensure database performance, availability, and data integrity, optimize data pipelines, and drive efficient data solutions using SQL Server, Azure, and other technologies. As the industry adapts to AI, the engineer will help capitalize on the native AI capabilities in SQL Server 2025-including the vector data type, semantic (vector) search, in-database embedding generation, and external AI model integration-to build modern, AI-ready data solutions.
Responsibilities:
Database Administration:
* Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server instances across production, test, and development environments, automating patching and routine maintenance
* Implement and maintain backup, recovery, high-availability, and disaster-recovery solutions (e.g., Always On Availability Groups, clustering, and replication) to safeguard data availability and business continuity
* Monitor database health and performance, and conduct query tuning, indexing, and capacity planning to ensure optimal performance
* Manage database security, including user access, roles, permissions, and compliance with data governance standards
Data Architecture and Management:
* Design, implement, and maintain data architecture solutions-including data warehouses, databases, and data lakes-that support business objectives and data strategy
* Develop and optimize ETL processes to ensure data accuracy, quality, and reliability
REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Management, Information Technology, or a related field
* Proven experience (5+ years) in SQL Server database administration and data engineering
* Hands-on experience administering SQL Server, including installation, backup and recovery, high availability, security, and performance tuning
* Strong understanding of SQL, Database Architecture, data analysis principles, data modeling, and ETL processes
* Proficiency in Azure services, ADF, Fabric, Azure SQL, SQL and data integration tools
* In-depth knowledge of relational and non-relational database management systems
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business insights, both written and verbally
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
* Ability to efficiently work with interdepartmental teams and other internal stakeholders
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
