About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr Software Engineer - Database Systems to join our dynamic team. This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on cutting-edge SaaS technologies and impactful database infrastructure that supports enterprise applications and users worldwide. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, performance optimization, and reliability of complex database systems, with a strong emphasis on PostgreSQL and EDB Postgres Advanced Server (EPAS), while collaborating closely with engineering and operations teams.
Responsibilities:
Software Development: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code or various software applications and specializing in database systems.
Database Development: Design, develop, and deliver PostgreSQL-based infrastructure to support various applications and services, writing clean, maintainable, and efficient SQL and scripting code.
Technical Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering teams to perform SQL code reviews, define, and document best practices and guidelines, and drive performance tuning and optimization efforts.
Code Review: Diligent about reviewing code developed by other developers, providing feedback and maintain a high bar of technical excellence to make sure code is adhering to industry standard best practices like coding guidelines, elegant, efficient and maintainable code, with observability built from ground up, unit tests etc.
Architectural Design: Participate or lead in design reviews with peers and stakeholders and in the architectural design of new features and systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Service Health and Quality: Maintain the availability, reliability, and health of
engineering database environments. Proactively identify and address issues using monitoring and observability tools and conduct thorough root cause analysis to prevent future recurrences.
Engineering Excellence Practices: Build and maintain SOPs, runbooks, and
recommended actions. Advocate for and implement database best practices, holding a high bar for performance, reliability, and operational excellence.
DevOps Model: Oversee CI/CD pipelines for database workflows, ensuring efficient build, test, and deployment phases. version upgrades including PostgreSQL major, minor, in-place upgrades.
Incident Response: Participate in incident response activities including on-call rotations. Lead root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to ensure continuous system stability.
Mentorship: Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and growth mindset.
Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including SOPs, runbooks, best practice guides, and architectural decision records.
Innovation: Stay current with emerging database technologies and cloud-managed database services, advocating for their adoption where appropriate to drive innovation and productivity within the team.
Basic Qualifications
• 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, Database Engineer working with Postgres SQL and EDB Postgres Advanced Server (PPAS).
• Expertise in UNIX/Linux environments.
• Experience in scripting languages such as Python or Shell.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience with version control systems like GitHub, automation tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, configuration management tools like Terraform, Ansible and bug/work tracking systems like JIRA.
• Understanding of cloud technologies and DevOps principles.
• Experience supporting large-scale, multi-tenant production systems.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk or Grafana.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• This position requires working onsite 3 days a week out of the UKG Lowell, MA office location
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Relevant certifications such as Google Cloud or EDB Postgres, are a plus
• Familiarity with Google Managed DB services including AlloyDB, Bigtable, BigQuery, and Cloud SQL.
• Knowledge of Java platforms and middleware (e.g., Apache, Tomcat).

The pay range for this position is $102,300.00 to $147,050.00. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and work location. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible to participate in a performance-based bonus plan and to receive restricted stock unit awards as part of total compensation.
