Job Title: Database Administration
Job Description: *PLEASE NOTE THIS POSITION WILL ALLOW CONSULTANT TO WORK ON A HYBRID REMOTE SCHEDULE (3 DAYS ONSITE/ 2 DAYS REMOTE) UPON START.
• Install, upgrade, and patch Oracle engine and related Oracle tools as necessary in conjunction with Midrange Technical Support.
• Monitor database performance and tune instances as necessary.
• Monitor database and listener availability to ensure maximum uptime.
• Assess and act on alert log messages including investigation, contacting Oracle Support and referral to other groups as necessary.
• Perform high-level security functions, including securing system user accounts and main application schema accounts. Maintain security permissions on Oracle owned operating system files.
• Manage table spaces, control files, redo logs and other physical components of the database.
• Maintain parameter and configuration files including database initialization parameter (pfile/spfile) files, and TNS configuration files.
• Develop, test and document DB backup/recovery and disaster recovery procedures. Perform DB recovery as needed.
• Copy/clone production DBS into non-production environments.
• Develop and maintain UNIX shell scripts to set Oracle environment variables, create/remove DBS, startup and shutdown instances, start and stop listeners; move and/or compress archive redo logs, remove aged Oracle log and trace files, scan alert logs to issue Email notifications of Oracle errors and to identify unplanned resource outages, ensure high availability failover of Oracle resources (e.g., HP Service Guard and IBM HACMP) in conjunction with Tech Support.
