Location: Rochester, Minnesota (Remote)
Role Overview
We are seeking a Data Engineer to gain access to data across the organization and provide ongoing analysis by monitoring, profiling, and analyzing databases. This role requires a mix of functional, data, and technical skills. The hire will be responsible for expanding and optimizing data architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
  • Perform complex data analysis and investigation for customer requests to explain results and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management.
  • Analyze business objectives and develop data solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Improve and customize current data solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Research new and existing data sources to contribute to new development and improve data management processes.
  • Perform periodic data quality reviews for internal and external data.
  • Complete final configuration and hardening of the Globus Connect Server (GCS v5) deployment on Google Cloud Platform Compute Engine VMs.
  • Onboard initial research user groups to the Globus platform and provide hands-on support.
  • Monitor and maintain Globus Connect Server VM health, GCS services, and Google Cloud Platform bucket lifecycle policies.
  • Produce comprehensive technical documentation such as runbooks, SOPs, and architecture diagrams.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or an Associate's degree in Computer Science or Engineering with two (2) years of relevant experience.
Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience with the Globus platform, including Globus Connect Server v5 deployment, configuration, and administration. Demonstrated ability to analyze and profile data through advanced data modeling or data mining techniques.
Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, including writing and troubleshooting queries for data mining.
  • Understanding of ETL processes, data modeling concepts, and data systems.
  • Deep understanding of the Globus ecosystem: endpoints, collections, storage gateways, and connectors (S3, POSIX).
  • Experience with GridFTP protocol for large-scale transfers.
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform Compute Engine and Google Cloud Platform Cloud Storage (S3-compatible buckets).
  • Strong Linux administration skills, including shell scripting (Bash).
  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTPS, GridFTP, DNS) and firewall configuration.
  • Broad understanding of Managed File Transfer (MFT) principles.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience deploying Globus in a healthcare or regulated environment (HIPAA, NIST).
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps (ADO) for configuration management.
  • Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
  • Knowledge of Sailpoint or similar identity governance platforms.
  • Experience with Entra ID (Azure AD) federation and SSO integration.
  • Familiarity with High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Google Cloud Platform Cloud Monitoring.
  • Familiarity with other MFT tools like Signiant or Cleo.
