POSITIONSUMMARY:
The Database Administrator I (DBA I) is responsible for supporting themission critical production, test, and development applications andenvironments used by the campus community.  
The Database Administrator I will be responsible for multiple aspects ofdatabase management and application support for central computing at DuquesneUniversity.  Responsibilities includesoftware installation, patch and upgrade administration, application setup andconfiguration, database and application server support, vendor technicalsupport, technology life cycle management, backup and recovery,troubleshooting, and server security, audit, and operations monitoring. 
The DBA I will report to the Associate Director of AdministrativeApplications and will also collaborate with the Database Administration Team inplanning efforts and the development of standards, project plans, policies, andprocedures.  Duties are performed on avariety of operating systems with a primary focus on RHEL and Windows.  The nature of this position will require theindividual to occasionally work evenings and weekends.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts fundamental OracleDatabase Administration tasks, including database creation and maintenance,tuning, backup and recovery, program migrations, and security implementationand audit.  Supports and enforcessecurity procedures and best practices.  
Identifies and documents available patches and upgrades for all supportedproducts, including the campus ERP platform.  Monitors vendor product communication channels and product roadmaps toidentify new technologies, release dates, requirements, and support timelines. 
Displays basic familiarity with application server technology such asApache Tomcat. Able to stop and start critical processes and deployapplications and patches to support the computing environment.
Works with the Database Administration Team to plan and implement upgradesand patches in support of the Ellucian ERP and Oracle environments, as well asother team supported assets.  Observesand participates as appropriate in all DBA team planning efforts and to thedevelopment of standards, project plans, policies, and procedures.
Entersservice requests with Oracle, Ellucian, and other vendors and responds tovendor technical support feedback with the support of other DBA team members.
Performs administrativetasks / other duties as assigned.
