Job Title: IT Infrastructure Engineer (DB2 Database Administrator – IBM z/OS)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) with strong expertise supporting IBM DB2 Version 12 (or higher) in an IBM z/OS mainframe environment. The selected candidate will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, performance tuning, recovery, and migration of mission-critical databases supporting the City's Payroll Management System (PMS), Pension Payroll Management System (PPMS), and Financial Management System (FMS).

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in DB2 database administration, production support, disaster recovery, performance optimization, software migrations, and IBM InfoSphere Data Replication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain IBM DB2 v12 (or higher) databases on IBM z/OS.
  • Perform database performance tuning using standard DB2 utilities, including:
    • RUNSTATS
    • REORG
    • REBUILD
    • COPY
    • RECOVER
  • Design, execute, and validate database backup and recovery strategies.
  • Monitor database health, availability, logging, backup/recovery processes, and system performance.
  • Support application development teams with:
    • Software installations
    • Release migrations
    • Data fixes
    • Production deployments
  • Prepare migration packages and provide detailed implementation instructions to Technical Support teams.
  • Troubleshoot DB2-related issues across Development, Testing, UAT, Performance Testing, and Production environments.
  • Perform database recovery activities during planned and unplanned outages.
  • Develop, document, and maintain database administration procedures and standards.
  • Open, track, and manage IBM support tickets through resolution.
  • Participate in Disaster Recovery (DR) planning, testing, and execution.
  • Support IBM InfoSphere Data Replication administration and ensure high availability of replication services.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, development, and application support teams to ensure database reliability and performance.
  • Validate vendor software releases and conduct technical testing to ensure compliance with FISA quality standards.
  • Assist with DB2 tools installation, upgrades, patching, and maintenance.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field and at least 4 years of relevant experience in database administration, data center engineering, cloud engineering, or complex IT infrastructure.

OR

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline and at least 8 years of relevant IT infrastructure or database administration experience.

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
