About Petco Love

Petco Love is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to create a future where no pet is ever lost, separated, or without a loving home. Our flagship platform, Petco Love Lost, is an AI/ML-powered national lost and found pet search tool that has facilitated over 120,000 reunions annually, covers 90% of U.S. animal shelters, and serves millions of pet parents across the country.

We operate at the intersection of technology, animal welfare, and community impact. Our small, mission-driven team moves fast, works closely with partners across the shelter and rescue ecosystem, and builds products that matter.

The Role

We are looking for a Data Analyst to join Petco Love's product and marketing team. This is a hands-on role with high visibility across our platform, GTM initiatives, and partner integrations. You will own our analytics infrastructure end-to-end, from raw event tracking in GA4 through BigQuery to dashboards and decision-ready insights that directly inform product and marketing strategy.

You will work closely with the Chief Product Officer, CTO, and Customer Success team. You do not need to be a data scientist, but you need to be deeply curious, self-directed, and excited about using data to drive mission impact.

Essential Job Functions

Analytics & Data Infrastructure

  • Own and maintain our GA4 implementation, including event schema design, custom dimensions, conversion tracking, and data layer governance across petcolovelost.org and related product surfaces.
  • Build and manage our GA4 to BigQuery pipeline as our primary analytics data warehouse; design schemas, write transformation queries, and maintain data quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports that track product performance, user behavior, funnel conversion, and mission KPIs (reunions, sign-ups, NPS, shelter engagement).
  • Apply advanced analytical techniques including behavioral segmentation, funnel analysis, predictive modeling, and cohort analysis to surface insights across the pet owner and shelter user journey.
  • Mine large datasets to identify patterns in user behavior, feature engagement, search performance, and platform outcomes to inform product roadmap and marketing decisions.

GTM Strategy & Marketing Analytics

  • Partner with the product and marketing team to design and analyze GTM experiments including A/B tests, flow variants, and audience segmentation strategies across email, SMS, and in-product channels.
  • Build and maintain audience models and signal-based segmentation to power our product and marketing automation architecture, including found-pet, lost-pet, and partner-specific flows.
  • Provide data support for partnership GTM initiatives including revenue modeling, audience sizing, and performance tracking.
  • Translate campaign and flow performance data (open rates, click rates, conversions, reunion outcomes) into clear recommendations that optimize acquisition, engagement, and lifetime value.
  • Build accurate financial projections and impact forecasts based on deep behavioral analysis to support board reporting, partner proposals, and strategic planning.

Animal Welfare & Mission Insights

  • Apply understanding of animal welfare industry dynamics to contextualize data findings and surface insights specific to shelter intake, outcomes, lost and found behavior, and pet owner decision-making.
  • Analyze survey and behavioral research data to identify unmet needs and product opportunities.
  • Validate AI/ML model outputs and surface quality signals from our facial recognition matching and pet identity systems to help the engineering team maintain accuracy and reduce false positives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Customer Success to identify trends in user-reported issues, NPS driver analysis, and segment-level satisfaction signals.
  • Present findings to senior leadership and board stakeholders; translate complex analysis into clear narrative, actionable recommendations, and visual summaries that drive decisions.
  • Contribute to long-term projects from scoping through execution, partnering with engineering, design, and external platform teams (shelters, rescue partners, plaform integrations).

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, math, computer science, or related field; Master's preferred.
  • 1-2+ years of experience in a data analytics or quantitative role.
  • Hands-on experience with GA4 - event tracking, custom dimensions, exploration reports, and integration with BigQuery (Google Analytics 4 to BigQuery export).
  • Strong SQL skills; experience querying large, complex datasets across multiple sources.
  • Experience with statistical programming languages (Python preferred; R or SAS acceptable).
  • Demonstrated ability to build clear, decision-oriented dashboards and visualizations (Looker, Tableau, Google Data Studio, or similar).
  • Exceptional communication skills - ability to translate complex data into plain, compelling narratives for non-technical stakeholders including executives and board members.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple workstreams simultaneously in a fast-moving environment.
  • Genuine intellectual curiosity and commitment to solving hard problems with limited resources.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Klaviyo or similar marketing automation platforms - audience segmentation, flow analytics, or A/B testing.
  • Familiarity with animal welfare, pet tech, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Experience with AI/ML data validation or working alongside data science teams on model quality.
  • Knowledge of the shelter/rescue ecosystem, pet reunification, or pet adoption platforms.
