Position Summary

The CPESN BI QuickSight Data Visualization Specialist is responsible for transforming data into compelling, highly polished Business Intelligence dashboards using Amazon QuickSight. This role focuses on visual clarity, storytelling, and user experience, ensuring that complex business insights are communicated in a way that is intuitive, engaging, and visually impactful.

This role combines a strong sense of aesthetics and human factors, data literacy, and Amazon QuickSight fluency. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in visual design, layout, and information hierarchy, paired with technical expertise in digital platforms for creating dashboards that drive understanding and action.


Essential Functions

• Design and build visually sophisticated dashboards in Amazon QuickSight using curated datasets provided by data analysts

• Translate business insights into clear visual narratives that highlight key takeaways and guide decision-making

• Establish and maintain consistent visual standards across dashboards, including typography, color systems, spacing, and component usage

• Apply principles of layout, hierarchy, and interaction design to improve readability and usability

• Partner with data analysts and stakeholders to understand the story behind the data and present it effectively

• Refine and elevate existing dashboards to improve clarity, polish, and user experience

• Ensure dashboards are accessible and easy to interpret for non-technical audiences

• Create reusable templates and design systems to scale dashboard production

• Specify precise data formatting requirements (schema, fields, data types, and file structure) for ingestion via S3 into Amazon QuickSight

• Create mock datasets and templates that clearly demonstrate how data must be structured to support accurate dataset creation and reporting

• Understanding of how to work with and apply RLS


Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Visualization, Visual Communication, Data Analytics, or related field

• 3+ years of experience in data visualization, digital design, or UI/UX design

• Past experience creating Highchart visualizations in Amazon QuickSight

• Expert-level understanding of Amazon QuickSight data and modeling


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong portfolio demonstrating dashboard design, data storytelling, or information design

• Deep understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, color theory, and layout systems

• Demonstrated mastery of industry-standard visualization platforms and programming languages

• Comfortable using AI technology to assist with production and workflow

• Familiarity with basic data structures and metrics, with an emphasis on interpretation

• Maintain understanding of best practices for data visualization and presentation

• Willing to contribute and work as a team

• Initiative, analytical thinking, and communication skills

• Maintain a working understanding of CCNC privacy and security policies

Working Conditions

• This position requires working in a remote home office environment with frequent phone calls, webinars, meetings, and computer work.
