Role Overview

Seeking a highly skilled Data Visualization Engineer with strong technical depth and design intuition. This role focuses on building interactive dashboards, insightdriven visual narratives, and highperformance BI solutions that make complex data clear, actionable, and trusted across the organization.


Core Responsibilities

  • Build interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations that clearly communicate metrics, trends, and insights
  • Translate business questions and KPIs into effective visual stories
  • Select appropriate visualization types, tools, and design patterns
  • Connect BI tools to enterprise data sources (cloud warehouses, relational DBs, APIs, files)
  • Develop and optimize data models, semantic layers, and calculated metrics
  • Apply best practices in layout, color, typography, accessibility (WCAG), and UX
  • Maintain visualization standards, templates, and style guides
  • Improve dashboard performance through query tuning, caching, and efficient modeling
  • Collaborate with data engineers to ensure data quality and reliability
  • Support selfservice analytics with documentation, training, and reusable templates
  • Conduct peer reviews and provide technical guidance within the BI environment

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years in data visualization, BI engineering, or related field
  • Expert in Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or Qlik Sense
  • Strong SQL for querying and optimizing large datasets
  • Solid understanding of star/snowflake schemas, relationships, aggregations, and semantic modeling
  • Experience connecting BI tools to Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Azure Synapse, or Redshift
  • Strong grasp of data visualization principles, UX, and accessibility standards
  • Proven ability to turn business requirements into polished, productionready dashboards
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deliverables (consulting/contractor mindset)

Preferred Qualifications

    • Proficiency in multiple visualization platforms
    • Familiarity with Python or R for data prep or analytics integration
    • Knowledge of data governance, cataloging, and metadata management
    • Experience in COE or enterprise BI governance environments
    • Familiarity with Git and CI/CD for BI development
    • Background in regulated industries (finance, healthcare, retail, government)
  • Relevant BI or cloud certifications
