Job description

Make a difference in our community! Lorain County Public Health is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse to join our team as a Public Health Nurse supporting the Substance Use and Overdose Prevention Program. Under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor, this position will perform public health nursing duties focused on preventing substance use and overdose and connecting individuals with needed resources.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Function as a member of an interdisciplinary team that works to identify and implement systems change related to substance use and overdose prevention
  2. Collaborate with community partners in the fields of addiction and mental health, including 1st responders and law enforcement
  3. Oversee Naloxone (Narcan) activities which include but are not limited to; inventory management, policy and protocol development, education and training, community outreach, distribution, mail orders, and monitoring of service entities
  4. Participate in local, regional, and state coalitions that address substance use, overdose prevention and harm reduction
  5. Participate in local Overdose Fatality Review (OFR) committee compiling and presenting case review data
  6. Perform grant related objectives and activities; creating work plans, objectives, budgets, and quarterly grant reporting
  7. Provide community outreach and education related to substance use, naloxone and other public health initiatives
  8. Other Public Health Nurse Duties as assigned

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with three (3) years of nursing experience preferred. Must have clear oral and written communication skills, Spanish speaking preferred. Competent in computer skills and electronic documentation.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a licensed registered nurse pursuant to Section 4723.13 of the Revised Code. Must have a valid Ohio driver's license with ongoing proof of auto insurance and be able to travel with reliable transportation. Current CPR certification. Must have proof of and maintain up-to-date vaccinations for healthcare providers or be in the process of completing. 


WORK SCHEDULE

This is a part-time (24 hours/3days per week) position with usual hours M-F 8:00 am – 4:30 pm with occasional evenings and weekends.


Physical Requirements and Unusual Working Conditions: While primarily office based, this position requires travel throughout Lorain County to off site partner agencies, community events, and clients homes. May encounter unsanitary working conditions. Must be able to wear PPE, including a face mask and face shield, when required. Must be able to lift objects of weight up to forty (40) pounds.


COMPENSATION: Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Ohio Public Employee’s Retirement System (OPERS). Paid vacation, personal day, holidays, and sick leave. Tuition reimbursement is available.


SALARY: $30.95 - $39.49/hr. (Starting pay determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, and internal pay alignment).
